Job Description: Materials Control / Purchasing (manufacturing)
The Materials Controller is responsible for the planning, purchasing & procurement, storage, control of materials and supplies according to company needs and requirements. Responsible for researching suppliers, negotiating best prices, negotiating supply contracts, and managing all inventory levels in accordance with corporate needs and budget.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Research all potential suppliers, negotiate prices and secure supply contracts.
· Works directly with Production Management and Production Planners to ensure uninterrupted materials supply to support ongoing production schedules.
· Responsible for all Materials forecasting and MRP functions in support of company needs.
· Responsible for all Purchasing activities and will ensure company procedures and processes are followed.
· Generate and issue approved Purchase Orders to suppliers, to ensure uninterrupted material supply.
· Directs all inventory control functions, receiving processes, and materials storage functions.
· Assist in determining appropriate inventory levels for materials. Utilize EOQ models and/or Kanban systems as prescribed by production requirements, to determine reorder points and quantities.
· Develop alternative suppliers for raw materials and operational supplies.
· Evaluate and select subcontractors based on ability to meet part & process requirements including the quality system and any specific quality assurance requirements.
· Conduct weekly and monthly Inventory Reconciliation for all assigned materials.
· Maintains and ensures accuracy of the perpetual inventory system, ERP and MRP.
· Oversees the warehouse and receiving functions related to all raw materials and purchased supplies.
· Identifies opportunities to reduce material costs, material waste and cost of inventories.
· Responsible for all procedures and activities for conducting and valuing mid-year, and year-end Physical Inventory Counts.
· Maintain records and data relating to stock and consumption, purchase records, pricing, contracts, vendor performances, and material specifications. Above-average records management (paper and electronic) is required.
· Oversees daily activities of Material Buyers within the department.
· Materials Controller reports directly to the Production Manager and the Company CEO.

Required Skills/Abilities:
· Excellent organizational and planning skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff.
· Proficient with ERP and inventory reporting systems.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Qualification Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics or related field required.
· Five years of experience in materials control and/or purchasing required, or equivalent.
· Experience with continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, & 6-Sigma would be a benefit.
