include: Information and Family Support for individuals with IDD, and their parents, guardians,

siblings, and community; Supported Living Services for adults living in the community;

Representative Payee for individuals needing financial management assistance; and Advocacy

for people with developmental disabilities, family members, and community allies seeking to

make our community more systemically equitable for all people. We promote and protect the

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Parent-to-Parent Coordinator for Spanish Speaking Families has the flexibility to be 0.8-1.0

FTE. It is a non-exempt position responsible for the implementation of the Parent to Parent

(P2P) program activities specifically designed for the Latino/Spanish-speaking community. The

P2P program provides culturally responsive peer support to parents who have children with

intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including information, referral, outreach

activities, social events, informal support groups, “Helping Parent” activities, and P2P program-

related workshops/trainings.

ORGANIZATIONAL REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Department: Information & Family Support

Supervisor: Multicultural Family Support Program Manager

Other Key Relationships: Director of Information and Family Support, all members of The

Arc’s Outreach and Advocacy Team, Supported Living Program, and Fund Development

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of IDD services and resources.

Accurately responds to and strives to resolve in a timely manner all Information and Referral questions and/or emotional support requests that come through in-person events or office visits, email, phone, and social media connections.

Under supervision, coordinates programs which includes developing program plans and documenting program activities in order to ensure quality service delivery and achievement of program outcomes.

Supports in overseeing the moderation of The Arc of King County’s Spanish social media platforms such as Facebook groups and Google Groups

Make program activities accessible to different cultural communities in terms of disability, language, culture, location, and other cultural considerations through utilizing The Arc of King County’s diverse staff team, and/or interpreters (over the phone or in person).

Program activities include but are not limited to:

Deliver Parent to Parent program essentials to Spanish Speaking families, including hosting at least one Helping Parent training per year, one IEP Parent Partner training per year, making and supporting IEP Parent Partner and Helping Parent matches, and attending regular P2P WA meetings and activities.

Provide emotional and peer support to parents of children with IDD and special healthcare needs.

Support and maintain a strong working relationship with the active Helping Parent and IEP Parent Partner pool of volunteers.

Coordinating P2P program-related workshops/trainings, social events, and informal support groups

Attend and host resource fairs, presentations, and educational workshops where information about The Arc of King County and IDD resources are shared.

Critically evaluate program activities for effectiveness and regularly consult with supervisor.

Proactively participate in team, department and agency meetings to achieve program goals.

Maintains good relationships with community stakeholders including groups identified by supervisor.

Ensures program documentation and promotional materials are up to date. Including on-going timely, accurate Salesforce data entry.

Partner with the Public Policy and Civic Engagement Team to create programs, share educational resources and civic engagement opportunities for Spanish-speaking families.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor-level degree preferred or equivalent work experience.

Experiences

  • Per contract requirement the position must be filled by a parent or close family member of a person with a disability or special health care needs.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English – written and spoken.
  • Direct experience interacting with and supporting people with intellectual and developmental
  • disabilities and their families.
  • Ability to learn about IDD and community resources through experience, on-the-job training, and other professional development opportunities and to successfully relay that information to individuals with IDD and their families.
  • An ongoing commitment to learning, as policies, services and procedures change over time.
  • Ability to learn and implement State of Washington Mandatory Reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with a team.
  • Ability to be self-directed, and to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to set professional boundaries.
  • Ability to persevere in the face of obstacles.
  • Experience in using MS Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and able to learn and use other required technology.
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • OR a combination of education, experience, and measurable performance that demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position.


PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or an approved accommodation request is required prior to starting work.
  • Ability to work in an open office environment with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to use phone, email, and internet with ease.
  • Ability to travel anywhere in King County as needed (if driving, must have a WA driver’s license and car insurance; if not driving, ability to be punctual when traveling anywhere in King County)
  • Work hours typically occur between 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday with some flexibility.
  • Requires some evening and weekend work with advanced notice/planning.
  • Accommodation to meet these requirements may be available upon request.
  • Until mid-2025 this position will primarily work remotely with some in-person meetings and events. In mid-2025 when The Arc moves into its new office in SeaTac, more in-office presence will be required with option for some hybrid work.

HOURS/SALARY/BENEFITS

  • This position is flexible to be 0.8-1.0 FTE (32-40 hours/week).
  • This is a non-exempt position, hourly wage is $23.00
  • This position is eligible for The Arc of King County’s employee benefits package which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(K), EAP, Orca card, paid holidays, paid personal leave, and more.
