Software Engineer - Punch Team

About the Team:


We are recruiting a Software Engineer for the Punch Team in the Time and Labor space. The Punch team plays a crucial role in our success, handling some of the highest volume services in terms of transactions across the organization. As Paylocity continues to grow rapidly, we are seeking a Software Engineer to join our team and help scale our current Punch APIs in a new cloud-native architecture to handle 10x the volume (and beyond!) that they currently handle now.


The Punch team is currently focused on completely rewriting our Punch APIs to be cloud-native and highly scalable. Some of the work we’re doing includes:


· Supporting existing punch systems via mobile, web, kiosk and hardware clock platforms

· Building a brand new backend asynchronous engine to provide scalable experiences for our clients

· Designing and integrating high observability dashboards and monitors via DataDog

· Ensuring we have robust load testing processes and frameworks in place to pressure test our work

· Main languages and frameworks are C#/.NET

· AWS services including API Gateway, EC2/ECS/Lambda, DynamoDB


What you will do:


· Product Engineer: Lead team members and collaborate with stakeholders to build and deliver large initiatives with a large team; Create highly resilient, scalable distributed back-end systems.

· Drive API architecture, review, and implementation using RESTful API design patterns.

· Agile Partner: Collaborate with cross functional teams and deliver meaningful iterations; leverage Agile methodologies and CI/CD to rapidly release new features.

· Operational Owner: Build and productionize highly scalable and tolerant systems using AWS; leverage internal tooling to accelerate product development cycles.

· Data Spelunker: Answer business questions and influence decisions using data; enable team members to answer questions with data that leverages quantitative and qualitative inputs.

· Often act as a technical lead for features or epics and complete features or epics where the approach is loosely defined and requires technical & design discovery prior to implementation

· Ensure code is flexible, reusable, extensible performant, and high quality through feedback on code reviews

· Decompose outcomes into solutions composed of multiple software components interacting with each other

· Understand and consider technical dependencies

· Provide feedback via decision-making frameworks for proposed changes from across the org

· Work within the scope of a team and participate in driving cross-team collaboration

What you will bring:


· Experience developing highly scalable applications

· Passion for writing great, simple, clean, efficient code

· Experienced in relational and NoSQL databases

· Bachelor's degree in a computer science, engineering, technology related field or equivalent experience

· 2+ years’ hands-on experience preferred with full-stack web development

· Must be advanced in object-oriented design and development and unit-testing, and web pages using ASP.NET and/or ASP.NET MVC with C#

· Experience with AWS would be a plus

· Experience with DataDog is a major plus

· Experience with unit testing and integration test automation

· Must be adaptable to change and have a willingness to learn

· Must have a strong sense of curiosity

· Must be able to work effectively in an agile and team environment

· Must be effective and creative in problem solving


What success looks like:


In this role, you will work alongside software engineers, product managers, and UX designers to own and drive efficiencies, code quality, and application health for the scheduling product suite. As a member of the team, you will be actively developing customer experiences and implementing performance improvements, helping to lead architecture decisions, and mentor other members of the team.


In the first 6 months you will:


· Analyze and spearhead improvements to the systems and software that are important to the team

· Advocate for best practices and a healthy balance of tech debt versus delivery

· Make significant contributions in driving design, development, and delivery of new tools, as well as contributions to existing features.

· Improve our software’s quality in ways that can be measured and quantified

· Design software with multiple components interacting across systems

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $146,189/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed. Base pay information is based on market location.
