Job Description

Summary:

Darwin's Natural Pet Products is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying our financial transaction and ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all our accounting tasks.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, Senior Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate also has experience collaborating with and/or mentoring a team of Accounting Specialists.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute month-end close procedures - Performing monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position/assist with budget variance analyses
  • Ensure proper valuation of inventory and cost of goods sold
  • Assist with Reconciling sub-ledger to general ledger account balances
  • Preparing financial statements and other internal reports to help track and evaluate company performance
  • Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets schedules
  • Manage multi-states sales tax administration including assisting with sales & use tax audits and filing of sales & use tax returns
  • Manage and coordinate activities required to ensure an accurate accounts payable and receivable system
  • Provide input into internal and external audits to ensure compliance
  • Assessing internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
  • Follow and support the development of standard operating procedures and policies to ensure accuracy, GAAP compliance and consistency
  • Accounting subject matter expert in ERP integrations. Responsible for oversight of systems integrations effect on the general ledger, and for maintaining processes within Syspro related to GL integration.
  • May act as a lead, oversee, and review the work of one or more accounting specialists, providing coaching and professional development, as needed
  • Liaise with cross functional departments to resolve accounting questions, ad-hoc queries, and requests, and ensure your team has timely access to the information they need
  • Assist with special projects as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of industry experience, 2-3 years E-Commerce experience required, manufacturing accounting & sales tax experience preferred
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience with inventory accounting processes and best practices
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting concepts and financial statements
  • Knowledge of core ERP software a plus

Job Skills:

  • Work ethic that exudes integrity, accountability, and professionalism
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word), spreadsheet guru with intermediate/advanced level in Excel, including proficiency with lookups and pivot tables a plus
  • Strong analytical skills - analyze and interpret data and develop action plans based on results
  • Demonstrated problem solving and process improvement skills
  • Ability to set priorities and goals, while maintaining focus, and follow through on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to plan and manage projects effectively and the ability to efficiently complete and execute new programs as required.
