Job Title: Traveling Retina RN or LVN

Department: Clinical Trials

Reports to: Director of Clinical Trials

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: RN - $45-$55; LVN - $30-$38

Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Traveling RN or LVN Retina Technician. This position plays a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologists and retina specialists in providing high-quality care to patients with retinal conditions. This position requires a strong understanding of ophthalmology, exceptional communication skills, and a compassionate approach towards patient care.

Essential Functions:

1. Patient Assessment and Care

• Conduct thorough assessments of patients with retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal detachment, etc.
• Administer eye drops and medications as prescribed by the physician.
• Educate patients on their condition, treatment options, and necessary lifestyle modifications.
• Monitor patients during procedures such as intravitreal injections, laser treatments, and retinal surgeries.

2. Clinical Support

• Assist ophthalmologists and retina specialists during examinations, procedures, and surgeries.
• Prepare and maintain surgical equipment and instruments.
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative care instructions to patients.
• Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment in clinical settings.
• Administering Fluorescein.

3. Documentation and Record-Keeping

• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes.
• Document patient histories, vital signs, and medication administration accurately.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and effective communication.

4. Patient Advocacy and Support:

• Address patient concerns and questions regarding their treatment plan.
• Coordinate referrals to other healthcare providers or support services as needed.
• Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and their families throughout their treatment journey.

5. Continuous Learning and Professional Development:

• Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in retinal care.
• Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, and conferences related to ophthalmology and retina nursing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse with IV Therapy Certification.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Ideal Candidate: will have clinical experience in ophthalmology and proficiency in ophthalmic diagnostic techniques, including fundus photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fluorescein angiography.

Physical Requirements/Typical Working Conditions Environment:

Primarily in a temperature-controlled facility.

Work may require prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching.

Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment.

Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate in person, by phone, or over video.

Requires occasional lifting of papers or boxes up to 30 pounds.

Essential Physical Tasks:

Sight – sufficient to read physical documents, and images on a computer monitor.

Smell – sufficient to discern smoke/something burning, and other odors.

Hear – sufficient to hold face to face/telephone/video call conversations, and to discern other ambient noises.

Touch – sufficient to operate keyboard, mouse, other standard office equipment, and writing implements.

Physical ability/strength – sufficient to lift, twist, turn, reach, climb, kneel, squat, sit, walk, stand, or bend as needed throughout a standard shift.
