Camp Med Aide

Position Summary

The Camp Medication Aide is accountable for preparing, administering, and accurately documenting medications at Sunnyhill Adventures camp. Camp Medication Aide is responsible for maintaining documentation and reporting all health concerns to the nursing team and program director.

• Reviews camper’s medical files and support plans to best support each person.
• Administers medications to campers according to physician orders and camp policies and procedures.
• Monitor campers for any adverse reactions or side effects from medication and report any concerns to nurse and director.
• Maintains accurate and detailed records of medication administration including dosage, time, and any observed side effects.
• Monitors campers for signs of illness or injury and administration of first aid.
• Collaborates with the nursing team and camp program staff to assess and address camper health concerns.
• Responds promptly to all medical emergencies in adherence with Sunnyhill’s policies.
• Assists campers with personal care support as needed.
• Follow proper medication storage and handling procedures to ensure the safety and effectiveness of medications.
• Follows established safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Communicates safety concerns to camp program staff.
• Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
• Fosters a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the camp environment for all campers and Sunnyhill employees.
• Maintains complete and accurate Medication Administration Records (MARs) for all campers in accordance with their physician orders.
• Complete accurate and detailed event reports regarding the people we support’s illnesses or injuries.
• Regularly monitors and takes inventory of medical supplies and reports needs to program staff and/or nursing team.
• Communicates effectively with the people we support, families/guardians, program staff, counselors, and other stakeholders.
• Maintains camper confidentiality and privacy in accordance with Sunnyhill’s Confidentiality policy.
• Works closely with staff on individual camper needs including, but not limited to, communicating dietary needs of campers to kitchen staff.
• Maintains accurate documentation regarding health history for each camper, forms, releases and camper data or copies.
• Communicates with the Director of Nursing and immediate supervisor regarding the need for treatment of illness or accident; follow directions from Director of Nursing or immediate supervisor to secure ambulance, physician, or hospital assistance when necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED
• Must be 18 years or older.

Required Skills/Abilities & Qualifications

• Required to pass Medication Administration Level 1 Training within 30 days of hire.
• Required to pass CPR/First Aid within 30 days of hire.
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance (use of personal vehicle required at times)
• Acceptable background checks

Physical Requirements

• Able to stand, walk, and sit four (4) hours at a time.
• Repetitive bending and reaching up to two (2) hours a day.
• Able to lift 25 pounds from floor to waist.
