About CANO

Community Academies of New Orleans (“CANO”) is a new charter school management organization created to bring together Esperanza Charter School, Foundation Prep Charter School, and Lafayette Academy Charter School with the ultimate goal of strengthening all three schools. The nonprofit boards that governed Foundation Prep and Choice Foundation voted to establish this partnership in 2019 to benefit from the organizations’ shared values, similar programming, and strong leadership, and set operations of CANO to launch ahead of the 2020-2021 academic year.

About the Role

The Finance Manager is charged with assisting with overseeing the finances of Community Academy of New Orleans and advising the Director of Finance on financial matters.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties of the Finance Manager include but are not limited to the following tasks:

Financial Reporting

● Preparing annual financial statements and providing supportive documentation of the financial statements in conjunction with the annual independent audit.

● Preparing and submitting the Annual Financial Report (AFR) and all Quarterly Financial Reports to the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) in accordance with the prescribed timeline.

● Timely filing of tax forms as required by the Internal Revenue Service and Louisiana Department of Revenue.

Financial Management

● Monitoring compliance with the organization’s internal controls and financial policies.

● Overseeing collection of outstanding balances for tuition and other fee based programs.

● Analyzing and controlling expenditures with an understanding of the relationship between school


EXPECTATIONS AND SKILLS

● Able to prioritize, organize, and lead by example

● Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration

● A minimum of three (3) years accounting experience in public accounting or in a controllership position

● At least one certification, or be enrolled in a certification program

o Certified Louisiana School Business Administrator (CLSBA) or

o Certified Louisiana Charter School Business Administrator (CLCSBA) or

o Certified Administrator of School Finance and Operations®(SFO®) or

o Certified Louisiana CPA

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

● Experience in an urban school setting

● Experience in charter schools

● Experience with Quickbooks Online


Physical Demands


  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the workday.

  • Able to occasionally move about inside the office and school building to meetings and other assigned duties

  • Occasionally ascend stairs to migrate throughout the workspace
