Job Summary:

The QC Lab Intern serves as a support function to the Denham Springs Quality lab. Responsibilities for the role include testing intermediates and finished products to verify they are within required specifications, testing toller retains to ensure quality and ensuring data is accurately recorded into appropriate spreadsheets, logbooks, and SAP.

Responsibilities:

Compliance:

  • Complies with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and arrangements
  • Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly
  • Acts in a safe and responsible manner at all times

 

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monitors product quality to ensure compliance to standards and specifications
  • Prepares and conducts chemical experiments, tests, and analyses using techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, physical and chemical separation techniques, and wet chemistry methods
  • Conducts chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, and liquids
  • Compiles and interprets results of tests and analyses 
  • Provides technical support and assistance to chemists, engineers, and operations 
  • Prepares chemical solutions for products and processes following standardized formulas, or creates experimental formulas 
  • Maintains and cleans laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Orders and inventories materials in order to maintain supplies 
  • Develops and conducts programs of sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards of raw materials, chemical intermediates, and products

  • Takes responsibility and ownership for own learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self and the business
  • Assists in the training, mentoring and assessment of other team members
  • Exercises autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance

 

Qualifications/Desired Skills:

Education:

  • Must be currently enrolled in degree program in Chemistry, Biology or related discipline

Experience Desired:

  • 1-3 years’ related industrial or related laboratory experience preferred
  • A solid background in applied basic chemistry and math is vital, along with skills in using various kinds of equipment and standard labware

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated high technical aptitude as well as analytical and critical thinking skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and priorities 
  • Ability to work in a team environment within a multi-functional, organizational structure and exhibits robust interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent proficiency within Microsoft products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 
  • Critical thinking and conflict resolution skills and analytical abilities which allow assessment of complex customer service issues, situations and opportunities
