QC Assistant Manager

Job Description: This high visibility position is responsible for communicating with each QC Laboratory on daily QC inspections & monitoring activities; to help maintain MFI Food Safety & Quality Management System; and Document Control program. This position is also responsible for communicating with all internal and external account holders, The Quality Control Coordinator provides necessary assistance to production by coordinating, leading, and promoting initiatives for food safety management system. The Quality Control Assistant Manager reports to the QA Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Supervising daily operations to ensure products are tested correctly and meet quality standards.
• Develop and enforce QC processes and procedures for both raw materials and finished products, including overseeing the implementation of such procedures.
• Provides support during quality audits, including preparation and response for third-party audits, ensuring products consistently meet legal and customer specifications.
• Lead and train the QC team on proper testing procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance to maintain a high standard of quality control.
• Manage the calibration and maintenance of QC equipment to ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and providing accurate measurements.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance for all mandated quality checks, testing, inspections, and certifications to adhere to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Serve as the primary QC contact during swing shift, for internal teams such as production, purchasing, logistics, and upper management to communicate quality issues and coordinate on solutions.
• Provide support to QC-related projects, such as process improvements and troubleshooting quality issues, to improve efficiency and product quality.
• Participate in weekly departmental meetings and other strategic sessions to represent the quality control department during swing shift and provide updates on QC issues and improvements.
• This position will work closely with the team in conducting Rood cause analysis and problem resolution when a quality issue is identified.
• The QC swing shift Manager assistant will be responsible for the implementation and follow-up of the 5-S program.
• Swing Shift Focus: This role is tailored to manage quality control during the swing shift, addressing unique challenges that may arise outside of typical business hours. This includes being the primary QC contact during these hours, which requires a high level of autonomy and decision-making ability.
• Given the non-standard working hours, this role is pivotal in real-time decision-making and troubleshooting. They must effectively communicate and coordinate with internal teams like production, purchasing, and logistics to resolve immediate quality issues.

Employment Requirements:

Bachelor or A.S. degree in Food Science, Agribusiness, Biology or Chemistry preferred, but not required. Or minimum High School + a 3-year experience required in a food-manufacturing environment or similar role.

Good PC skills with working knowledge of MS Office Suite

Knowledge of Quality Systems (ISO 22000, ISO 9001 helpful)

Knowledge of GFSI benchmark (highly desirable)

Knowledge of HACCP, GMP's and food safety standards

Understanding of Third-Party or Regulatory Audits (highly desirable)

Great communication skills and Technical Writing skills
