Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Facility Specialist - Fitness & Recreation Manager this position assists in the daily operations of the Recreation Fitness Club. Provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere which will encourage residents and guests to have an enjoyable and safe time while using the Fitness Club. Ensure the conformance of Recreation Department and District policies at Recreation centers by following the required protocols and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Includes, but not limited to)

General/Administrative

  • Open and/or close Fitness Club per specified procedures.
  • Acknowledge and welcome in a positive and cheerful manner all residents/visitors upon entry to the Fitness Club and provide accurate information about fitness equipment.
  • Be proficient in the use of all fitness equipment and be accessible to ensure optimal customer service.
  • Sign up new members and renew membership in AS400.
  • Be at work and ready to start promptly at the scheduled shift beginning, and complete assigned shifts as an active team member.
  • Instruct verbally and through demonstrations individuals and /or groups in lessons, and rules and regulations of fitness equipment.
  • Answer telephone calls by identifying self and facility and provide accurate information to caller.
  • Assist in minor repairs and maintenance of equipment as directed within timeframe designated.
  • Keep current with District and department policies and all changes/updates to ensure the ability to abide by, and enforce, same as it relates to daily duties and responsibilities.
  • Assist Facility Specialist – Fitness with decisions for the Fitness Club that supports policy while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Exercise excellent communication skills to keep staff and Facility Specialist - Fitness aware of key issues that arise regarding maintenance requirements or customer related issues.
  • Clean Fitness Club equipment based on facility guidelines.
  • Report maintenance concerns to Fitness Specialist.
  • Abide by department dress code at all times, wearing proper attire to perform all job duties.
  • Other special assignments and tasks required as assigned by supervisor.
  • Although position may reside primarily at one location, the ability to travel to other Recreation locations at Department’s request due to business needs is also required.

Guest ID’s

  • Follow required ID protocol of residents and/or guests by checking and recording all resident IDs and guest passes upon their entrance to Fitness Club. Verify resident/guest status prior to the use of the facility.

Finance

  • Follow cash handling procedures for collecting all monies.
  • Reconcile the daily cash register and charge machine transactions and communicate with Facility Specialist - Fitness as necessary to report discrepancies.

Recordkeeping

  • Accurately maintain recordkeeping, either manually or via computer, as directed and within designated timeframes. Recordkeeping may include, but not be limited to, membership agreements, daily sign in logs and daily transaction logs.
  • Inventory Fitness Club's supplies and advise Specialist of replenishment needs.

Equipment

  • Instruct individuals in rules, use and regulations of all Fitness equipment, as needed through demonstrations and verbally.

Incident Reporting

  • Follow District incident reporting protocols for all incidents related to self, residents and/or guests, including but not limited to health, safety, lost items and/or facility conditions by reporting same immediately to the Facility Specialist - Fitness and Recreation Facilities Manager at the time of such incident, or no later than the end of an assigned shift.

Additional

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be expected to perform additional duties in an emergency.

ESSENTIAL EXPECTATIONS OF PERFORMANCE AND BEHAVIOR (Includes, but not limited to)

  • Cultivates and maintains effective working relations within the department, the District, as well as outside of the organization.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Includes, but not limited to)

  • High School or General Education Degree (GED), or one (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training in lieu of education.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • CPR/AED training.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
  • All candidates and employees must successfully pass background and drug screening.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Includes, but not limited to)

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge of District and Department policies and changes/updates to ensure the ability to abide by and enforce same as it relates to daily duties and responsibilities.

Skills

  • Proven intermediate or better proficiency level in Microsoft Word, Excel (formulas) and Outlook.

Abilities

  • Frequently throughout the course of daily duties must be able to successfully lift and/or carry items such as fitness equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends and willingness to serve (or substitute) at other fitness clubs regardless of center size.
  • Ability to work independently and to comfortably open and close a fitness center, which may include working with limited natural light source depending upon time of day/year.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to provide optimal customer service.
  • Well organized and able to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment to meet multiple demanding deadlines.

EQUIPMENT

Position regularly requires the use of:

  • Recreation equipment including but not limited to: Fitness equipment, and scanners.
  • Office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, personal computers and productivity software.
  • District vehicle (truck, car, or golf cart).
