Responsibilities 
The incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating, developing, and producing efficient, cost-effective, and reliable supplemental timetables and crew work programs for NYCT subway lines.  
The incumbent will also assist in the analysis and distribution of key statistics, cost files, and budget analyses related to Subway Schedules.

Planner Series (OA) 
Principal Transportation Planner (OA): $91,050 - $120,924 
Senior Transportation Planner (OA): $85,921 – $109,536 
Transportation Planner (OA): $75,649 - $97,423 
Assistant Transportation Planner (OA): $64,687 - $76,579 
 
Analyst Series (OA) 
Assoc. Staff Analyst (OA):          $85,316 - $110,468 
Assoc. Staff Analyst (TA):          $77,356 - $100,155 (New Hire Rate: $67,264) 
Staff Analyst II (OA):                  $75,475 - $84,060 
Staff Analyst II (TA):                   $68,430 - $76,213 (New Hire Rate: $59,505) 
Staff Analyst I (OA):                   $65,003 - $76,955 
Staff Analyst I (TA):                    $58,934 - $69,771 (New Hire Rate: $51,245) 
TA EMPLOYEES MUST BE PERMANENT CIVIL SERVICE ASSOCIATE STAFF ANALYST, STAFF ANALYST I OR STAFF ANALYST II IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED 
 
Education and Experience 
Principal Transportation Planner 
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in one or more of the following: engineering, urban studies, geography, transportation science, urban planning, economics, business, public administration, political science or related fields; and five (5) years of full-time paid experience in transportation planning, scheduling or operations.  A master’s degree in any of the fields listed for the baccalaureate degree may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. 
Senior Transportation Planner 
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in one or more of the following: engineering, urban studies, geography, transportation science, urban planning, economics, business, public administration, political science or related fields; and four (4) years of full-time paid experience in transportation planning, scheduling or operations.  A master’s degree in any of the fields listed for the baccalaureate degree may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. 
Transportation Planner 
Must possess education as stated above plus two (2) years of full-time paid experience in transportation operations planning or a satisfactory combination of education and experience. 
Assistant Transportation Planner 
Must possess education as stated above plus one (1) year of full-time paid experience in transportation operations planning or a satisfactory combination of education and experience. 
 
Associate Staff Analyst 
  1. A Master’s degree from an accredited college with a major in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a closely related field, and ONE(1) year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, fiscal management or in a related field; OR
  2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and THREE (3) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the areas described in 1 above.
Staff Analyst I & Staff Analyst II 
  1.  A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, or urban studies, or a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; or
  2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full time professional experience in one or a combination of the following areas: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, labor relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management; or in a related area; or
  3. An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university and four years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in "2" above; or
  4. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in "2" above; or
A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", "3", or "4" above. College education may be substituted for professional experience at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma. 
 
Desired Skills 
Excellent presentation, communication, and writing skills
Proficiency in technical writing and data analysis
Fluency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word and GIS
Knowledge of New York City Transit subway and/or bus system and the geography of New York City are highly desirable. 
 
Selection Method 
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.
Appointment may be at a comparable level to current level of selected candidate (if necessary)
