Job Description
BASIC JOB FUNCTION

NHS’s Homeownership team is one of the most prolific community groups, delivering close to 100 homeownership-related classes and webinars per year. The Education Coordinator will be responsible for the development and improvement of all the agency’s homeownership education curriculum utilizing offline and online platforms. A will use cultural insights, client feedback and their knowledge of teaching to develop an innovative curriculum that addresses some root learning challenges and is both effective and in-line with the latest educational standards and developments.

A great candidate will be intellectually curious, creative, and open to critiquing the status quo and seeking out new teaching and learning styles to create a best-in-class and engaging learning experience to increase content retention and financially empower our clients. The Education Coordinator will also be responsible for identifying facilities for classes and workshops in traditional and non-traditional spaces and scheduling all classes, workshops and webinars.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop culturally sensitive and trauma informed educational and informational programs, across platforms, for primarily a low-to-moderate income audience that are primarily people of color on financial literacy, home buying, homeownership, the rehab and construction management process, estate planning, for special initiatives, etc.
  • Oversee and manage existing education content to ensure education material, such as presentations, education materials, and resource guides are updated and relevant.
  • Deliver direct instruction, managing and coordinating various education initiatives internally and externally with community partners.
  • Coordinate community events and attend events scheduled on evening or weekend in various parts of the City of Chicago or Cook County.
  • Collaboration is key. Work with the Homeownership, Neighborhood Strategy, and Construction Services teams, to identify knowledge and service gaps to develop needed coursework.
  • Identify and schedule guest speakers and other interactive tools to enhance class content.
  • Coordinate and manage an agency-wide education calendar.
  • Work with homeownership senior leadership and marketing department to develop and implement a marketing plan for classes and workshops.
  • Work with Homeownership leadership and Resource Development team to fundraise, through grants and sponsorships, for education resources.
  • Develop, train, and manage an instruction training program for housing counselors.
  • Maintain, update, and disseminate documentation and performance reports.
  • Represent the organization in educational and community discussions, and education in internal meetings.
  • Work with the IT and Business Improvement staff to create, track, and maintain metrics about attendance, reach, and effectiveness of homeownership and other educational programs using client management system Salesforce and Zoom technology.
  • Design and develop pre and post workshop survey questionnaires to gather relevant data. Implement surveys through online platforms such as Zoom using Survey Monkey.
  • Manage and organize survey data, ensuring accuracy, and share survey results internally.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent industry experience in Education, Psychology, Communication, or related degree

Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience teaching/managing in a classroom and online environment.
  • 3+ years developing curriculum/lessons plans for offline and online classes and workshops for adults, preferably
  • +2 years of experience with coordinating virtual or in-person education events.

Desired Skills

  • Flexible work schedule, including ability to work some nights and Saturdays across NHS’ Service area which includes all of Cook County and City of Chicago to attend community events and workshops.
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external customers orally and in writing with clarity and good effect.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to identify and learn e-learning platforms to facilitate delivery of curriculum and engagement of class participants strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of housing industry or home buying a plus
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs such as Outlook 360, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with online video platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Web Ex, etc.
  • Canva experience is a plus.
  • Salesforce, or Oracle database experience.

  • Valid driver’s license with access to a safe, reliable vehicle for extensive travel associated with the position.

REMOTE WORK POLICY

The Homeownership Department staff work on a 3/2 schedule requiring a minimum of 2 days in-office, in addition to any in-office time as necessary for important meetings, team meetings, all staff meetings, audits, site visits by funders, agency events, etc., including twice monthly in-person team meetings.

IMMUNIZATION POLICY

NHS Chicago has a COVID vaccination policy that requires testing to work in our office environments actively and safely. As a condition of employment, all employees must either be immunized by vaccination against COVID-19 (unless granted a medical or religious exemption) and/or test weekly if unvaccinated.
