Finance Director

SUMMARY:

We are conducting a Director of Finance search for a growing commercial and residential home services company in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Earlier this year, the company was sponsored by a private equity firm whose business plan calls for the company to grow 5x over the next 10 years. The PE firm is a best-in-class, long-term private investor group focused on business building and growth as it pursues long-term capital appreciation in the commercial and residential home services space.

As the company enters this new stage of growth, the Director of Finance will be expected to foresee and evolve the responsibilities of the accounting and finance function. This leader will also build out the team as the company grows. This will entail a roll-up-your-sleeves effort in creating processes and leading a team in achieving its goals, for the company’s current state and at scale.

The Director of Finance will:

• Lead all aspects of finance and accounting, including financial reporting and management of the general ledger.
• Ensure that US GAAP financial statements are timely, accurate, and complete. Create and manage a monthly closing process.
• Lead day to day financial planning efforts to ensure reporting is functioning at an optimal level to support decision making.
• Establish and manage accounting workflows, procedures, and accounting systems (QuickBooks)
• Manage the current accounting staff of 2 accounts receivable clerks and 1 accounts payable clerk; hire additional personnel as business scales.
• Oversee payment and disbursement activities ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Process bi-weekly payroll as well as manage and file payroll tax reports.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement with a focus on efficiency and collaboration.
• Calculate and issue regular cash forecasts and working capital metrics.
• Working with the company’s tax accountants to ensure the ongoing compliance with state and federal tax laws.

The requirements for the Director of Finance are:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA preferred.
• 6+ years proven success in accounting roles of increasing responsibility in an established company.
• Experience having ownership over financial reporting deliverables, including monthly close and cash reconciliation processes.
• Proven knowledge of US GAAP.
• Experience with QuickBooks; proficiency preferred.
• Willingness to get into the details and ‘do’, not delegate.
• Ability to move between issues that are big-picture/strategic in nature and those that are hands-on/detail-oriented.
• Demonstrated success in process improvement.
• Appreciation for and familiarity with blue-collar business activities and employees.
• Willing to roll-up-your-sleeves and build a high-quality accounting and finance process as well as managing the functions.
• Experience in construction, home services, and/or related industries is preferred.
• Collaborative leadership style with a natural partner orientation to the business.
• Effective communication style.
