Medical Coding (Adjunct Instructor)

Primary Functions: Promotes quality instruction through development and updates of program content and the utilization of good teaching methods. Helps to align course content based on AAPC coding specialist certification. Assists the Director of Healthcare Certifications in recruitment, mentoring, and documentation of student clinical requirements.

Minimum Qualifications: Evidence of possession of Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification as issued by the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) and at least five-years of in office medical coding experience with a strong commitment to coding as a profession. Previous teaching experience is desirable.

Job Specific Competencies:

• Demonstrates leadership in managing the Medical Coding course and promoting quality instruction
• Excellent written verbal and written communication skills
• Has excellent working knowledge of a medical coder's role
• Recommends curricular changes based on evidence from governing bodies
• Supports technology in the classroom
• Directs, oversees, and assists the work of assigned students on the Moodle Learning System
• Provides regular feedback to students
• Updates Coding course syllabi accurately, completely and keeps current
• Works with the Director of Healthcare Certifications to maximize classroom instruction & communicate clinical opportunities
