Job Description

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Mechanic III- Mechanical is responsible for supporting DSSA Inc. Facilities department in duties that are highly technical in the construction and maintenance of all Facilities related. Is able to identify and troubleshoot a large variety of equipment. Personable team player and who can mentor the lower-level facilities personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyze plant problems and provide solutions including plumbing, mechanical, exhaust, controls, etc.
  • Perform general maintenance in several trades with minimal supervision.
  • Install, maintain, and repair mechanical piping systems i.e.: plumbing, industrial gases, refrigeration, and pneumatic via solder welding, brazing, pro-press, and mechanical connections.
  • Monitor, maintain and operate all facility-related control systems such as I-Vu, Ingersoll Rand, BACnet, CCN, fire alarm systems, etc.
  • Utilize Maintenance Management Software (MPulse) to perform preventive maintenance, unplanned maintenance, installation, repair, and construction of all mechanical, electromechanical and control systems with an emphasis on Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, high and low voltage systems, compressed air systems, industrial gases, plumbing, etc.
  • EPA Universal certificate for all refrigerant types
  • Install, maintain, and repair air conditioning systems, AC/DC motors, electromechanical systems, plumbing, sheet metal etc.
  • Design and install sheet metal ducting, stainless steel fittings, and ventilation piping.
  • Understand and follow technical instructions.
  • Read and understand technical documents and instructions to perform calculations required for construction, installation, and repair of all mechanical equipment.
  • Create isometric drawings for mechanical schematics for submittals to engineers.
  • Red-line facility blueprints for CAD as-built records.
  • Assist in Scope of Work estimates for all phases of mechanical projects (Plumbing, HVAC, and controls emphasis).
  • Assist with production machine moves.
  • Oversee and effectively direct the work of outside HVAC/Controls contractors.
  • Order and maintain parts inventory for mechanical equipment.
  • Guide and mentor lower-level Maintenance Mechanics.
  • Work in accordance with SDI’s safety and compliance programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Mechanical Lead and Facilities Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum of a high school diploma or GED, bachelor’s degree or Mechanical trade school certification preferred. EPA certification required at time of hire. Minimum 7 years facility maintenance experience or equivalent experience with certifications, previous manufacturing environment experience a plus. Working knowledge of the following trades: electrical, framing, roofing, etc. Working knowledge of local building codes, in relation to mechanical fields. Able to demonstrate knowledge and hands-on ability in all functions including HVAC installation, service and repair, plumbing, brazing, soldering, welding, grinding, cutting, sheet metal, pipe threading etc. Correctly read, design, calculate, size, and draw blueprints, isometrics and technical drawings for field work, suppliers, and manufacturers. Must be an expert in all facilities related controls systems including: I-Vu, Ingersoll Rand, BACnet, CCN, fire alarm systems, etc. Knowledge of proper operation of forklifts, scissor lifts and ground vehicles. Must have a valid driver’s license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move throughout the facility, traverse within production areas, communicate with others, and detect or exchange information or ideas. The employee occasionally is required to perform functions which require the manual operation of both general office productivity and test equipment as well as the ability to place, reach, detect, ascend/descend, and position self to navigate within confined working spaces. The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position. The employee must occasionally move or transport up to 50 pounds. Outdoor work may take place in temperatures that are below freezing or that exceed 110o F. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close inspection, identification of objects from a distance, color determination, peripheral detection, depth judgment, and the ability to identify details in varying conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to lighting and temperature as required for the office and manufacturing areas. Appropriate safety equipment is required by area. There is potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, including radiation. A considerable amount of moving from department to department may occur in unfavorable weather conditions. The employee is exposed to the inherent dangers of the explosive materials used in DSSA, Inc. manufacturing processes.
