Job Description

The Highlands Ranch Metro District and Centennial Water & Sanitation District are currently accepting applications for the Safety & Wellness Coordinator position. This position is responsible for the coordination of the Safety and Wellness Programs for both Districts which involves working with all levels of the organization to develop, coordinate and conduct safety training.

The Safety & Wellness Coordinator will establish a wellness program and coordinate wellness incentives and opportunities. If you are outgoing, approachable, have excellent customer service skills, and are a safety and wellness focused individual, we strongly encourage you to apply.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety

  • Develop and implement safety policies and programs. Review regularly and update as needed.
  • Identify required safety training for staff. Consult with outside services for unique training opportunities.
  • Stay current on safety requirements.
  • Promote both District’s safety initiatives, including safety committee program, National Safety month, and safety communications program.
  • Attend and participate in a variety of professional groups and committees related to Safety & Wellness.
  • Design, implement and conduct employee safety training programs.
  • Communicate safety issues/hazards to management and supervisors.
  • Analyze hazardous risks as to the impact and exposure to the District’s to minimize loss.
  • Review safety procedures to identify potential risks and make recommendations for necessary changes to policy and procedures.
  • Maintain employee safety training records and communicate deficiencies to management and supervisors.
  • Represent the District’s in a professional manner and maintain positive working relationships inside and outside the organization.
  • Perform other safety related duties and special assignments as assigned.
  • Conduct new employee and seasonal employee safety orientation.
  • Communicate and distribute safety, hazard prevention, and loss control information to employees.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts, support, and help to implement new ideas.
  • Evaluate, purchase, and maintain safety supplies and equipment for all departments.
  • Conduct accident investigations to assess unsafe acts and conditions, minimize recurrence, process changes and other injury prevention/reduction activities.
  • Review loss exposure information to determine trends and follow-up with safety initiatives.
  • Obtain and maintain Instructor certification and provide annual CPR and First Aid training for employees.
  • Review and update Safety SOPPs and Safety Policy Manual.
  • Manage prescription safety eye-glass wear program and safety footwear program.

Wellness

  • Conduct health assessment / survey to identify employee needs.
  • Develop and implement wellness programs and initiatives.
  • Educate employees about healthy living and provide resources.
  • Partner with departments and organizations to promote wellness.
  • Measure the effectiveness of wellness programs and make necessary adjustments.

Workers’ Compensation

  • Oversee of all aspects of Workers’ Compensation to ensure legal compliance.
  • Authorizes medical treatment for injured employees.
  • Implement programs to reduce WC issues / injuries.
  • Process internal Incident / Accident Reports and communicate report appropriately and confidentially.
  • Ensure completion of First Report of Injury and notify carrier of claim.
  • Determine if modified duty is available and complies with any work restrictions indicated.
  • Act as a liaison between injured workers and medical providers when appropriate.
  • Submits lost time reports to insurance carrier on a timely basis.
  • Provide medical evaluations and treatment plans to the insurance carrier.
  • Track lost time for Workers’ Compensation.
  • Responsible for notifying payroll of changes to employee’s compensation.
  • Provide HR Manager with status updates.

DOT / CDL

  • Oversees District’s DOT, CDL process.
  • Maintains CDL random drug and alcohol testing records in compliance with DOT rules and regulations.
  • Manages DOT program including quarterly randoms, MVR audits, monitoring of DOT expiration dates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or business-related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of safety training experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and Colorado safety regulations.
  • Instructor Certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED-BL.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have the ability to create, organize and maintain employee safety training records.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required.
  • Work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills to interact with employees at all levels.
  • Prepare accurate and complete records and reports.
  • Experienced in employee education and training method, curriculum development and training effectiveness.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position is under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, including Microsoft Windows, Office 365, spreadsheet and database software, web-based software systems, calculator, desk and cell phone, MFP copier/scanner, general office equipment, etc., camera, automobile, or light truck.


WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, mainly Monday through Friday. Due to the nature of this position, some evening and weekend hours may be required. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office and in outside weather conditions including inclement weather. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and contact with water from irrigation, plumbing fixtures, and other sources.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
