Intern - Civil Engineer

Job Description:

As a Willmer intern, your job responsibilities will include many areas that are the foundation of geotechnical and environmental engineering. These will include laboratory testing, construction materials testing and field observations. You will be a valuable member of the team learning and working along-side professional engineers daily. You will learn how to interface with field contractors, run laboratory and field testing of soils and concrete and practically apply your education. If you enjoy the engineering field our training program will help accelerate your knowledge base and lay a foundation for your future success

Job Duties:

• Field quality assurance and quality control
  
• Travel to job sites under construction including but not limited to office buildings, distribution centers, roads and bridges, dams, landfills, airports, and other developments
• Researching feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications

Job Requirements:

• Normal business hours are 7:30am to 6:00pm however projects and job schedules might dictate more hours so your schedule must be flexible
• Must like to work outside and with your hands as you will be sampling concrete, soils, concrete aggregate and asphalt
•  You must be able to walk on a variety of uneven surfaces as terrain can be muddy, slippery, wet, frozen and be flat or steep
• The minimum lifting requirements, carrying, and pushing equipment is 20 pounds
• The maximum lifting requirement is 50 pounds
• The maximum carrying requirement is 40 pounds
• The maximum pushing requirement is 60-80 pounds
• You can expect to climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs
• You will be responsible for operating equipment such as coring equipment, concrete mixers, compression machines, beam break machines, hammer drills, and saws

Qualifications:

• Pursuing a Bachelor/Master of Science in Civil Engineering
• Interest in Geotechnical engineering preferred
• ACI Certification preferred
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to interface with many different types of people

Salary:

• Hourly salary will be commensurate with experience
• Work truck and equipment provided
• Personal car and/or transit arrangements to Willmer Engineering office
