POSITION: Mechanic Trainee – Water Pollution Control Facility 

Public Works Department 

Full-time position, 40 hours per week

STARTING RANGE:

$24.91/hour (Employees start at position range minimum per contract)

POSITION RANGE:

$24.91 - $32.56/hour

POSITION OVERVIEW & REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The Mechanic Trainee assists in the performance of any combination of tasks pertinent to maintaining and controlling the operation of the treatment plant and collection system in accordance with Federal and State laws and regulations. Successfully maintains, repairs and installs all types of wastewater management equipment, including but not limited to gas or electric pumps, grinders, screens, generators, air blowers, plumbing, samplers, meters, monitoring equipment, and building and site systems.

Must be able to perform ordinary mathematical procedures through standard practical applications. Must successfully pass mathematical and practical tests. Ability to effectively communicate in written and oral form with fellow WPCF employees, including operations staff, to convey information and describe problems and solutions. This is an entry level position.

High school graduate or equivalency certificate. Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, required.  Must pass the Connecticut Class I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator exam within 12 months of hire and obtain the NEWEA Grade 2 Collection Systems Certificate within 12 months of hire based on class availability. Once Grade 2 Collection systems certification is passed, promotion to Mechanic – WPCF.

State of Connecticut Wastewater Treatment Plant Certification requirements are contained within the Wastewater Treatment Operator Regulations which are Sections 22a-416-1 to 22a-416-10 of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies. The most current requirements will apply.
