Job Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for assisting the Quality Manager in the overall maintenance and continuous improvement of the facility's Quality Management System (QMS). This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with quality standards, implementing quality control processes, and driving initiatives to enhance product quality and customer satisfaction.

Primary Job Functions

  1. Quality Management System Maintenance:
    1. Support the Quality Manager in the maintenance of the QMS in accordance with applicable standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 9001).
    2. Assist in the preparation and management of quality documentation, including procedures, work instructions, and records.
  2. Quality Assurance:
    1. Conduct internal audits and assessments to verify compliance with quality standards, identify areas for improvement, and recommend corrective actions.
    2. Participate in external audits and inspections conducted by regulatory agencies or customers.
  3. Quality Control:
    1. Collaborate with production and engineering teams to establish and maintain quality control processes, including inspection procedures, sampling plans, and quality checkpoints.
    2. Perform product and process audits to ensure adherence to specifications and standards.
  4. Continuous Improvement:
    1. Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction through data analysis, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
    2. Participate in cross-functional teams to implement Lean Six Sigma methodologies and other quality improvement initiatives.
  5. Supplier Quality Management:
    1. Assist in the evaluation and qualification of suppliers based on their quality performance and capabilities.
    2. Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to address supplier quality issues and drive supplier development activities.
  6. Training and Development:
    1. Provide training and guidance to employees on quality policies, procedures, and best practices.
    2. Facilitate training sessions on quality tools and techniques to enhance the skills of personnel involved in quality-related activities.
  7. Customer Satisfaction:
    1. Support the resolution of customer complaints and non-conformities by investigating root causes, implementing corrective actions, and communicating with customers as necessary.
    2. Monitor customer feedback and satisfaction metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  8. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality management, or a related field Preferred.
  • Prior experience in quality engineering or a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management principles, standards, and methodologies (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma).
  • Proficiency in quality tools and techniques, such as statistical analysis, root cause analysis, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Certification in quality management (e.g., Certified Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Green Belt) is a plus.

Experience

  1. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control preferred
  2. Knowledge and experience with ISO:9001
  3. Project management experience a plus
  4. CMM and/or Scanning Experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  2. Proficient skills in reading and interpreting part prints and understand GD&T
  3. Proficient math skills and understanding X, Y, Z coordinates and measurements
  4. 3D software experience helpful
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels
  6. Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving, and management skills
  7. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

Working Environment / Physical Demands

  1. Office and manufacturing/light production floor environment with ventilation, climate-control system, moderate lighting, and moderate noise level
  2. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
  3. Use vision to see, analyze, and adjust;
  4. Light to moderate lifting is required
  5. Regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter-driven hours as business demands dictate.
  6. Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
  7. Use finger and hand dexterity to type, adjust, move, handle, perform, operate, install, attach, remove, apply, grasp, grip, manipulate, and measure
  8. Periodically move, transport, rotate, reach, pull, twist, adjust position, push, stand, stoop, bend and crouch

Safety Requirements

  1. Required to observe all safety standards and rules.
  2. Required to report all injuries to his/her supervisor and Human Resources within 24 hours.
  3. Personal protection equipment must be worn as required by the job.
