Certified Medical Coder (Temporary Position - 6 weeks)

Non-Profit Clinic- On-site in San Diego, CA

$25-$30/hr DOE, Full-time (Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm)

Must have experience with an FQHC

Job Summary:

Responsible for daily coding and auditing of patient encounters, providing feedback and education to staff on coding processes and guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:

- Perform daily coding and reviews, providing coding/documentation guidance to medical staff.

- Ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures within set timeframes.

- Communicate with other departments to obtain necessary information for clean claims submission.

- Act as a Subject Matter Expert for coding-related tasks.

- Analyze data for patterns and trends, identifying improvement opportunities.

- Track open encounters and coordinate with billing/providers for timely documentation submission.

- Inform management of reimbursement issues and coding guideline updates.

- Assist with Quality Management functions related to coding.

- Ensure compliance with audit requirements for coding.

- Adhere to all company policies and payor regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

- High school graduate or equivalent.

- CPC Coding certification from AAPC.

- Minimum two years' coding experience.

- Prefer two years' experience in an FQHC environment and coding compliance program implementation experience.

- Prefer one-year medical billing experience.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel.

- Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal/Presumptive Eligibility

- Familiarity with payer coding policies and guidelines for FQHCs.

- Understanding of Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) coding.

- Knowledge of medical terminology.
