Position Overview
American Wheatley is seeking a highly organized and efficient Material Handler to support our welding production and warehouse operations. The Material Handler will be responsible for safe and accurate transportation of materials, ensuring that production workflows are maintained, and inventory is managed effectively.
Essential Job Functions
- Transport materials between the production facility and warehouse using the company truck and trailer.
- Secure lifting attachment to material when transporting pallets to destination.
- Pull parts as per the bill of materials, engineering drawings of subassemblies, or pick lists.
- Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, forklift, overhead cranes, and electric hoists.
- Ensure proper labeling and identification of all products with job or sales orders, bill of materials, routing sheets, Kanban cards and placards with part numbers.
- Keep all material handling equipment in optimal condition by performing regular daily inspections. Report on maintenance issues associated with the equipment.
- Participate in maintaining a high-quality manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrate excellence by adhering to all manufacturing policies, processes, and guideline standards i.e., proper PPE use and maintaining OSHA safety requirements, part handling, sound equipment set-ups, daily equipment PM and 5S.
- Contribute suggestions that will improve products, and processes which in turn deliver quality and production.
- Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation neatly and accurately.
- All other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and experience operating vehicles with trailers.
- Experience in operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and electric hoist.
- Familiarity with 5s and lean manufacturing principles.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials.
- Prior experience with material handling in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and change direction as needed to address urgent situations.
- Self-motivated, willing to accept responsibility for daily material handling tasks, and follow through.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Willing and able to raise and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Willing and able to walk, stand, stoop, sit and carry material daily on even terrain.
- Willing and able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Willing and able to work outside in harsh weather conditions and/or in manufacturing/warehouse environments with varying temperatures.
- Willing to work alone a high percentage of the time. Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company policy.
- Willing and able to work unscheduled overtime.
- Willing to work in a manufacturing environment where noise levels can be high.
