Job Description

The expected pay range is based on many factors such as geography, experience, education, and the market. The range is subject to change.

We are currently hiring an Accounting Manager to join our team!

What You Will Be Doing:

Under general supervision, the Accounting Manager is responsible for planning and directing accounting activities directed by the Controller. The Accounting Manager ensures the organizations financial records remain accurate while meeting reporting deadlines while managing key day-to-day operations. They work collaboratively to establish and refine internal controls and guidelines for preparing transactions that comply with industry standards—e.g., generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). Work is moderately varied and complex and requires a moderate degree of discretion and independent judgment. Includes A/P, A/R, and Payroll.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and Monitor Financial Systems: Accounting managers create, monitor, and evaluate financial systems within the organization. They collect, analyze, verify, and report financial information to document the Health Plans financial performance and position the organization to make well-informed financial decisions.
  • Meet Financial Objectives: Accounting managers recommends forecasting requirements, assists in annual budgeting, and projecting expenditures to prepare periodic statements and meet financial regulatory requirements. They analyze general ledger variances and suggest corrective action for management's approval to meet annual accounting financial objectives.
  • Achieve Operational Objectives: The manager will develop action plans, audit operations, and propose efficiency improvements. The accounting managers leads the accounting team to provide accurate, timely data and recommendations.
  • Monitor Revenue and Expenses: The accounting manager ensures companies' financial wellbeing by tracking revenue and expenses, consolidating and analyzing financial data, preparing special reports, maintaining internal controls and other best practices, and reporting activity to internal and external customers.
  • Lead Accounting Staff: Included in the accounting manager's purview is recruiting, hiring, and supervising accounting staff. They also conduct performance evaluations, coordinate training programs, and identify training needs.
  • Implements and maintains monthly and year-end finance calendar to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of close.
  • Implements and maintains internal controls, and accounting policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Assists Controller with managing external audit relationships and processes.
  • Promotes and maintains and ensures that direct reports promote and maintain an environment that supports HPSJ’s strategy, vision, mission, and values.

Required

  • Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, auditing and cost control principles, theory, and regulations, including accrual base accounting, organizational auditing, and fixed asset accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.

What You Have:

Education and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or related; and
  • At least five years progressively responsible accounting experience; and
  • Four years of supervisory experience in accounting; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Healthcare or managed care experience in an HMO, hospital or related.

Experience working with Medi-Cal or other state sponsored programs.


Licenses, Certifications

Required

  • Valid California driver license and reliable transportation or, the ability to obtain transportation on demand in the counties served by HPSJ if prohibited from getting a driver license due to a medically documented disability.


Preferred

  • CPA or CMA.
