Job Description

Starting Rate: $25.8399/hr + DOE
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Occasional weekend or evening hours

Job Summary: The SBHC Youth Coordinator leads Washington and Yamhill County Student Health Advisory Councils (SHACs) at all Virginia Garcia operated SBHCs. The Youth Coordinator engages students in Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) projects on mental health and wellness topics. This position serves as a liaison between the school communities, SHAC participants, and the SBHC program. Travel in Washington County and occasionally in Yamhill County is a vital component of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement youth activities (i.e. photo voice projects, surveying, community outreach, hallway health campaigns, speaker series, etc.) that promote mental and physical health, improve health literacy, and lower barriers for student access to services.
  • Network, partner, and build relationships with schools and community organizations.
  • Engage with youth-focused community groups in Washington and Yamhill counties.
  • Participate in community outreach planning events.
  • Prepare and submit monthly updates on SHAC activities.
  • Prepare and submit SHAC/YPAR reports to State Program Office in accordance with certification and grant requirements.
  • Recruit students and staff to participate in the SHAC.
  • Maintain records of SHAC participation and activities.
  • Arrange and coordinate conferences, workshops, and training seminars that SHAC members host or attend.
  • Collaborate with college-level interns to develop SHAC activities and programming.
  • Work with SBHC leadership and VG Communications to develop and maintain social media content for the SBHCs and SHACs.
  • Work closely with the SBHC Program Manager to assure compliance with State Program Office (SPO) expectations and SBHC Certification requirements, and to assure timely and effective reporting of deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Handle protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

HIPAA Requirements:

The SBHC Youth Coordinator must handle protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). This position may have access to PHI in the course of their duties. The SBHC Youth Coordinator is required to read the content of these records only to the extent needed to accomplish the assigned task.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database software.
  • Proficiency with popular social media platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, non-verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work within a team-centered approach and maintain cooperative relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • High degree of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism.
  • Commitment and alignment to Virginia Garcia’s mission, vision and values.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills (speaking, reading and writing) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, safe driving record and insurance coverage required.
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations within Washington and Yamhill counties.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Associate’s degree - preferably in health promotion, public health, education, or community advocacy, or three years of experience coordinating or developing youth programming or health and wellness education.
  • Experience with group facilitation.
  • Experience working with adolescents in group and/or school settings preferred.

Working Environment/Physical Hazards:

  • Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and hazardous chemicals.

Immunization:

Staff member must meet immunization requirements as stated in VGMHC’s immunization policy and state and federal guidelines.
