Job Description

We are an assisted living facility for the elderly. We currently care for 30 seniors. We prepare 3 meals a day for our residents, Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

The dishwasher is responsible for the set-up of the dish machine and completion of dishwashing. These services are consistent with the Home’s standards and philosophy are in compliance with all regulations, codes, policies and procedures that govern the facility.

Requirements and Qualifications:

1. Must possess at least 1 year of experience as dishwasher preferably in senior living or long-term care.

2. Prior work experience in a non-profit employment, preferred.

3. Must be comfortable with the elderly and disabled.

4. Must be able to adapt to changing work schedules.

5. Must enjoy a routine job.

6. Must be able to complete assigned tasks with accuracy and on a timely basis.

7. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

8. Flexibility and a willingness to adapt to change in an ever-evolving environment.

Essential Functions: Manuals, Policies/Procedures and Mission Integration materials for the Little Sisters are located in the Dietary Department. A personal copy of current Employee Handbook, the Home’s Supplement and Benefit Guide are provided at time of hire.

1. Responsible for preparation of dishes, utensils, pots, and pans for washing.

2. Responsible for operation of the dishwashing machine and dishwashing room/area.

3. Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and pans ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness.

4. Monitor temperature of the dishwashing machine daily to ensure the machine is operating properly.

5. Remove all cracked or broken dishes, and damaged utensils and notify the supervisor.

6. Store all dishes, utensils, pots, and pans properly.

7. Properly dispose of all trash.

8. Clean dishwashing machine inside and out after each shift.

9. Responsible for checking and maintaining high standards of sanitation, safety, proper storage, and handling in accordance with health department, state, federal, and local codes.

10. Responsible for informing supervisor of inventory needs.

11. Responsible for reporting any irregularity or defects of equipment to the supervisor.

12. Strive for optimal use of supplies and materials, keeping in mind cost and budget limitations.

13. Adhere to all administrative and dietary policies and procedures, including but not limited to HIPAA, safety / OSHA, infection prevention, residents’ rights, quality improvement and assurance indicators, and those contained in the employee handbook. Exhibit respect for each individual by assuring confidentiality of personal information and events.

14. Perform any other duties necessary to fulfill the primary duties and responsibilities of the position, as well as those assigned by the Dietary Manager, Dietary Supervisor or management personnel.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

The Dishwasher does not supervise any other employees. Hiring and termination decisions that concern employees of other departments are not considered the responsibility of the Dishwasher. Hiring/termination of positions that directly interact with this position will take place with the Dietary Manager, Dietary Supervisor, Administrator, Mother Superior, and the Human Resources Manager.

 

Work Environment and Ergonomics

Must have sufficient vision and color discrimination.

Able to push, pull, lift/carry objects more than 50 pounds.

Able to walk and stoop as needed.

Able to speak and communicate effectively and clearly in English and make self understood.

Must have sufficient vision to read instructions, distinguish colors, and interpret gauges.

Ability to concentrate on moderate to fine detail with frequent to constant interruptions.

Able to focus on a task up to 60 minutes at a time.

Able to remember simple and multiple tasks and assignments given to self and others ranging from short to long periods of time.

Adequate hearing to receive verbal instructions, answer phone calls, respond to emergency signals/alarms, and communicate effectively with Residents and others.

Able to perform tasks that require finger, hand, arm dexterity/mobility and hand-eye coordination.

 

Must have the cognitive ability to understand related concepts; comprehend, remember, and follow multiple instructions frequently amidst noise and constant interruption while concentrating on fine detail and tasks.

Professional Appearance in Attire

Dietary uniform is to be worn for on-duty events in the Home. When representing the Home at outside events, respectful, appropriate attire is expected.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

As a full-time/part-time, non-exempt position, the days and hours of work allow for flexibility depending on the needs of the department at any given time. This position will at times require evening/night and weekend presence in the Home. On-site presence is expected for attendance at administrative and department meetings and staff development programs (mandatory all-staff and/or dietary department).

 

Travel

This position may require some local travel within the Insert whatever geographical area is appropriate. In addition, there may be an occasional job-related event/conference/meeting requiring travel beyond this geographical region, including overnight accommodations. Associated expenses are determined and approved by both the Mother Superior and the Human Resources Manager.
