Job Title: Senior Transmission Line Design Engineer

Overview: As a Senior Transmission Line Design Engineer, you will lead the design, analysis, and optimization of high-voltage transmission lines, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of electrical power delivery systems. This role requires extensive experience in transmission line engineering, strong technical expertise in design software and standards, and the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers in complex projects.

Responsibilities:

1. Transmission Line Design: Lead the design and engineering of high-voltage transmission lines, including route selection, tower structure design, conductor selection, and sag-tension calculations.
2. Structural Analysis: Perform structural analysis and design of transmission line towers and foundations, considering environmental factors, wind loading, ice loading, and seismic requirements.
3. Material Specification: Specify materials for transmission line components, including conductors, insulators, hardware, and tower structures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
4. Design Optimization: Utilize advanced software tools (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE) to optimize transmission line designs, minimize costs, improve performance, and meet regulatory requirements.
5. Project Management: Manage transmission line projects from conceptual design to construction, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination with stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
6. Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality and accuracy of design deliverables, drawings, calculations, and technical specifications, adhering to company standards and best practices.
7. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in transmission line designs and develop mitigation strategies to enhance system reliability and resilience.
8. Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior engineers and project teams, fostering professional development and knowledge sharing within the organization.
9. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that transmission line designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ASCE, IEEE, NESC), environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and grid connection guidelines.
10. Client Interaction: Collaborate with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities to address technical inquiries, review project specifications, and provide engineering support during project execution.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or specialized training in transmission line design is preferred.
2. Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) in transmission line engineering, with a focus on high-voltage transmission projects for utility or engineering consulting firms.
3. Strong expertise in transmission line design software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, TOWER, or similar tools for modeling, analysis, and optimization.
4. Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, SAP2000) for tower design, foundation design, and structural integrity assessments.
5. In-depth knowledge of industry standards and codes related to transmission line design, construction, and environmental considerations (e.g., NESC, IEC, ANSI, ASCE).
6. Project management skills, including the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
7. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in engineering calculations, designs, and documentation.
8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
9. Professional engineering (PE) license or eligibility for licensure is desirable.
