Job Summary:

A critical member of the Development & Communications team, the Director of Institutional Giving reports to the Vice President of Development and Communications and is responsible for managing a multi-faceted portfolio of foundation and corporate donors. The Director works with the Vice President of Development & Communications to develop annual revenue goals and to find unique ways to engage current and prospective funders across a broad range of constituency groups but with a main concentration on foundation and corporate giving.

Duties and Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

  • Develop short- and long-term strategic institutional fundraising goals; assess areas for growth and provide leadership in the launching of new initiatives.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for soliciting and securing approximately $2M+ in revenue from corporate and foundation sources, aligned with the organization's goals and priorities.
  • Foster ongoing relationships with program directors and other key contacts within a broad range of foundations and corporations with mission/funding fit; work closely with VP of Development & Communications, CEO, and Manager of Institutional Giving to foster relationships.
  • Research and secure new funding streams and manage a diverse and long-term roster of possible funders; creatively identify new funders based on enhanced and new program initiative.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective corporate and foundation donors, including managing communication, stewardship activities, and donor recognition efforts.
  • Lead the development of compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and other fundraising materials to effectively communicate the organization's mission, programs, and impact to potential funders.
  • Create annual foundation and corporate projections and funding scenarios and work with VP, CEO, and Finance to accurately track funding projections throughout the year.
  • Provide strategic leadership and work across departments (Program, Data, Finance) to develop and submit compelling grant proposals, including identifying measurable goals and objectives and compiling program outlines, materials, and data. Work with the Finance team to develop and track grant budgets and reporting requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of proposal submission and grants calendar including creation of initial LOIs, applications/proposals, and required reporting, as well as supervision and support of staff submitting proposal content and materials.
  • Oversee creation/management of a pipeline and program for corporate engagement, including the planning of tailored giving (financial and in-kind) and volunteer opportunities (in collaboration with the Volunteer & Program team), event sponsorships, and other activities throughout the year
  • Work with the Program Data team to collect/evaluate data alongside all departments to ensure effective and appropriate dissemination of quantitative and qualitative information; interpret data to meet grant requirements as well as to identify additional fundable program expenses.
  • Supervise the Senior Manager of Development, ensuring they are meeting all fundraising and organizational goals and provide training, mentorship, and problem-solving support.
  • Collaborate closely with the Vice President of Development and Communications, as well as other members of the development team and across departments, to coordinate fundraising efforts and leverage resources effectively. Support of the entire development operation as needed.
  • Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and networking events to cultivate new relationships and raise awareness of our programs and funding needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Required Skills:

  • Commitment to the organizational mission and sensitivity to the needs of the individuals and communities Chrysalis serves.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in institutional fundraising, with a proven track record of securing grants and gifts of $25,000+ from corporate and foundation donors.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized strategic thinker with ability to exercise independent judgment, initiative, and discretion; able to set and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Motivated, independent self-starter with demonstrated ability to prioritize and accurately complete multiple tasks and work under deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or equivalent experience required.
  • A proven ability to establish, maintain, and deepen relationships that contribute to the increasing visibility, impact, and financial resources of an organization over time.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends, to travel to Chrysalis offices and donor meetings through Southern California as needed.
  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge/RE NXT preferred. Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint required.
