The role

This position entails comprehensive management of all technical aspects of substation operations, including construction, maintenance, and routine inspections. Responsibilities include aiding in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting YVEA's radio and metering systems, as well as conducting detailed inspections and repairs of high and medium-voltage electrical equipment related to power transmission and distribution. The role also involves significant contributions to the Engineering team by recommending improvements in practices and assisting in developing annual work programs and budgets. Additionally, this job requires leadership and job-site supervision, as well as managing substation SCADA equipment and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations. The successful candidate will also handle coordination of transmission system management and oversee maintenance of system solar arrays, along with various other duties as assigned.

Key responsibilities

  • Performs all technical aspects of substation construction, maintenance and operation. Monthly substation inspections, annual equipment testing as scheduled and equipment troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Aids with the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of YVEA's current radio system as
  • Aids the Metering Technicians with installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of metering installations as
  • Conducts the inspections, testing, repairs, and maintenance of high and medium voltage electrical equipment and circuitry, related to power transmission and distribution with a specialization of substation.
  • Provides accurate information necessary for maintaining the mapping system.
  • Recommends where improvements can be made in practices, procedures, and methods to Engineering.
  • Makes recommendations to Engineering Manager for annual work program and budget.
  • Routinely aids Engineering department with understanding system equipment, transmission and distribution coordination and proper implementation.
  • Provides job-site supervision and leadership of assigned personnel for training, guidance, and direction of work activities:
  • Plans district projects to best utilize workers, materials, and transportation equipment.
  • Interprets staking sheets and schedules completion of work to be performed.
  • Oversees and/or conducts tailgate briefing before start of work.
  • Inspects working conditions and monitors methods of operation for compliance with all YVEA Safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Assists with day-to-day training, development and evaluation of substation techs and meter techs.
  • Oversight of construction and commissioning of special projects or equipment per district.
  • Manage procurement, deployment, testing, programming, and maintenance of all substation SCADA equipment. Provides SCADA training to YVEA personnel as required.
  • Routinely Assists and directs personnel coordinating transmission system management and switching with power suppliers.
  • Oversees the maintenance and repair of system solar arrays.
