Job description

Position Overview
Power your future with Qualus in our Specialized Field Services department as a Senior Substation Test Technician. As a Senior Substation Test Technician, you will perform testing and maintenance of medium and high voltage circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and other electrical apparatus in utility substation environments.
Responsibilities
  • Perform acceptance and maintenance testing activities involving the operation of equipment in utility substations from 15-500kV, adhering to all safety measures.
  • Perform inspection, testing, and troubleshooting on medium and high voltage circuit breakers up to 500kV including megger, ductor, power factor, gas analysis, and timing tests.
  • Perform inspection, testing and troubleshooting of power transformers including TTR, power factor, Sweep Frequency Response Analysis, excitation, and winding resistance.
  • Perform testing on current transformers, CCVT's, substation grounding systems, and station batteries.
  • Utilize and accurately read meters and test equipment.
  • Reads and interprets schematics and wiring drawings.
  • Troubleshoot circuit breaker and transformer controls.
  • Accurately document test results using Power DB.
  • Adhere to production timelines.
  • Mentor and help hold team members accountable for assigned tasks.

Qualifications
  • High School/GED required with technical/vocational school background related to electrical/power required
  • 2-year technical school graduate or Bachelor's degree from ABET accredited university
  • Minimum 3 years related experience in substations, power plants and related protection and control schemes. Protective relay experience preferred, but not required
  • Familiar with omicron and doble software preferred, not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, business acumen, management ability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to read company manuals and reports, workplace rules and procedures; speak with poise and confidence, using correct English
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (inclusive of reading and writing) due to the nature of safety-related materials, documentation, and interactions with clients.
  • Prefer an Associate's degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an Electrical Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
