Intermountain Electronics, Inc. is hiring for a Mechanical Engineer located at our South Point, OH facility. IE is a leading provider of custom engineered and manufactured process and electrical systems to the mining, oil & gas, and power/utility industries in North America. IE's turnkey products are generally mobile - mounted on skids or in portable e-houses. Our products include portable power/generators, substations, electrical control rooms (MCCs/VFDs/switchgear), water-flood/disposal buildings, compressor skids, metering equipment, mining power skids, LACT units, and other products used in the energy, oil & gas, and mining sectors.

This position will be responsible for successfully designing mechanical, electromechanical products and structures used in various power distribution applications.

Major Duties:

  • Develop engineering design concepts for components and electromechanical assemblies that have tough requirements for size, precision, reliability and cost.
  • Use 3D modeling and 2D drawings to complete physical and mechanical designs, details, drawings, and layouts for manufactured equipment.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application; Consults with Project Managers to calculate cost and determine feasibility of projects based on analysis of collected data.
  • Complete structural or mechanical analysis of manufactured equipment in compliance with AISC, IBC, and other applicable codes.
  • Interface with Production Manager, shop floor supervisors, Project Managers to coordinate, or monitor the technical aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, or operation of product designs.
  • Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.


  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • 3 years Mechanical Design experience
  • Good administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency to achieve high quality results through continual attention to detail and anticipation of potential problems during the early planning and design review stages
  • Proficient using AutoCAD, SolidEdge or SolidWorks, Excel, MSWord and Outlook
  • Good mechanical, analytical, and technical skills
  • Good understanding of the relationship between product design and manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proven ability to work successfully with a cross-functional team.
