Collections Processing Assistant II (Research Libraries Special Projects) Department: BookOps Employment Type: Full Time Location: Stephen A. Schwarzman Building Reporting To: Evelyne Beljour Compensation: $43,291 / year Description Overview The BookOps Research Libraries Special Projects (BKRSP) team supports collection processing projects in the Research Libraries of The New York Public Library. The team is responsible for special projects involving the general collections of the Research Libraries, making items available to researchers now and in the future.

The team prepares items selected for digitization as part of the Google Books Library Project and other institutional initiatives. Books and other materials are barcoded and stabilized in preparation for transfer to high-density storage. The team provides support for collection moves. Under the general direction of the Senior Collections Processing Associate, the Collections Processing Assistant II performs catalog maintenance and physical processing of Research Collection materials. Responsibilities Perform catalog maintenance, item record creation, and barcoding activities Distinguish among multiple bibliographic records to choose the correct one for the material in hand; know when to seek help from a supervisor Retrieve and reshelve items according to classification and shelving guidelines Handle older collection materials that may be fragile or may require cleaning Apply appropriate stabilization treatment for the material in hand. Assist with collection maintenance, stack maintenance, labeling, bindery preparation, sorting materials, collection transfers, and basic preservation stabilization activities Identify problems and refer them immediately to the supervisor Process items at a rate that meets or exceeds standard service goals Perform other related duties as required Required Education, Experience & Skills Required Education & Certifications High School Diploma or high school equivalency certification Required Experience Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace applications (Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets) Required Skills Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication skills Ability to process a large quantity of work while maintaining a high degree of accuracy Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic work environment Must be able to push a loaded book cart Preferred Qualifications Successful completion of two years of college or a minimum of two years relevant work experience Familiarity with Sierra or Millennium integrated library system More...
