AWS Infrastructure Engineer

AquaPhoenix Scientific, a leader in the industrial water treatment industry, is seeking an experienced Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Engineer responsible for creating, maintaining, and advancing the company’s AWS cloud architecture. The AWS Infrastructure Engineer contributes to the building and maintenance of a robust, scalable, cost effective, and secure cloud-based infrastructure supporting the Company’s software applications and services.

This is a remote U.S. based work opportunity. Residence in the DFW metroplex area is preferred; however, not required. The successful candidate will be subject to customary travel as reasonably required by the Company and necessary to perform outlined job responsibilities – including traveling infrequently to the Company’s corporate offices located in Hanover, PA.

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations:

The ideal candidates for the AWS Infrastructure Engineer will have proven experience working in an AWS environment and possess the ability to provide delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet stakeholder needs and expectations. Must possess an ability to comprehend, anticipate, and diagnose issues while acting quickly with sound decisions to apply basic resolutions. Although not all inclusive, additional responsibilities, expectations, and skills will include:

  • Designing Infrastructure: Design scalable, reliable, and cost-effective infrastructure solutions on AWS based on the requirements of the applications and services.
  • Implementation: Implement the infrastructure using AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, and others, ensuring best practices for security, performance, and high availability.
  • Automation: Automate the deployment and management processes using tools like AWS CloudFormation, AWS CLI, or third-party tools like Terraform, ensuring consistency and repeatability.
  • Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor the health and performance of the infrastructure using AWS CloudWatch and other monitoring tools and optimize resources to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Security: Implement security best practices and compliance requirements, such as encryption, access control, and network security, to protect the infrastructure and data.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide support for incidents related to the infrastructure.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other teams such as developers, DevOps, and security teams to ensure smooth integration of infrastructure with applications and adherence to best practices.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of the infrastructure architecture, configurations, and processes for reference and knowledge sharing.

AquaPhoenix Scientific considers applicants with diverse backgrounds, education, and work experience; however, applicants for the AWS Infrastructure Engineer position will frequently have a combined education and/or work experience that is a minimum of:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven successful experience working as a system administrator, DevOps engineer, or cloud engineer with a focus on AWS infrastructure.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Proficiency in AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, IAM, CloudWatch, and others.
  • Strong scripting skills in languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell. Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, routing, and load balancing. Experience configuring and troubleshooting AWS networking services such as VPC, Route 53, and AWS Direct Connect.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for cloud environments, including encryption, identity and access management (IAM), network security, and compliance standards such as PCI DSS and GDPR.
  • AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator are a plus.
