Plant Mechanic I

Summary Statement: This position performs entry to semi-skilled crafts and trades in maintaining and making simple repairs to District grounds, buildings, waste- water treatment plant and other facilities. The work is performed under routine supervision. The waste- water facility is a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year operation and personnel in this classification will be subject to work on a shift basis, work weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities: The Plant Mechanic I:

• · Performs various manual labor assigned tasks
• · Repairs and maintains buildings, wells, and plant
• · Operates backhoe, front end loader, grading tractor, crane truck, forklift and moving equipment
• · May weld, braze, solder or use cutting torches.
• · Assumes responsibility for assigned inventory of equipment and supplies.
• · Must utilize safety equipment provided by the District, follow all safety rules and use good judgement in performing job tasks.
• · Assist higher level employees in accomplishing more advanced or skilled trade’s projects.
• · Assists skilled workers in carpentry, painting, plumbing, building, rebuilding and repairing treatment plant.
• · Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks and other equipment
• · Manages labor finders to assure correct job is being performed and completed
• · Performs manual cleaning or preventative equipment is functional and operating properly.
• · Provides assistance to Electricians, Treatment Plant operators and Plant Maintenance.
• · Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Two years of experience in the mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial and mechanical equipment
• Or a combination of trade school/ education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities (May be substituted one for the other on a year to year basis).
• Must obtain Florida DEP Class “C” Waste-water license within 24 months of hire
• Possess a valid and clear Florida Drivers license and acquire a valid Florida “B” CDL Driver’s License within the first year of hire
• Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
