Engineering Technologist ll or lll

Engineering Technologist II or III is an early career position for graduates of Engineering Technology and related 4-year degree programs. The position involves performing tasks associated with the design of industrial processes and the structures that support and house them. The Engineering Technologist position includes providing support of design activities in both office and field environments. The individual is expected to develop skills necessary to design industrial process lines and their associated structures under the direction of a professional engineer. This is an office-based position. However, travel to project sites for short durations is routine. Assignments to specific project locations may be required, where necessary, to assist with engineering and/or construction related tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

• Learn and understand internal processes and procedures.

• Develop design skills to utilize project design software.

• Learn and understand applicable codes used for project designs.

• Gather, interpret, and apply site survey data in design process.

• Develop and review detail drawings.

• Create material estimates and bills-of-material.

• Perform calculations for the design of structures and their components.

• Assist with the development of calculation reports.

• Perform required field duties, i.e., information gathering.

• Provide engineering support during construction.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience:

This position requires completion of a college or technical school program. The program should be technology based or include course work sufficient to develop the required technical skills. Bachelor of Engineering (or Construction) Technology degree is preferred, or a 4-year degree in a non-engineering field with the ability perform the technical functions of this position. Candidates with 2-year degree programs will be considered.

Possess technical skills in the following areas:

• Experience using MS Office programs. Word and Excel programs are commonly used.

• Good Math Skills, particularly in Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.

• Basic knowledge of statics and mechanics.

• Experience or familiarity with CAD design. AutoCad, and Tekla, or other 3D software.

• Basic knowledge of civil/structural codes and design methods.

• Basic knowledge of mechanical design methods.

Possess soft skills in the following areas:

• Good communication skills, both oral and written.

• Good organizational skills which include development of work plans, preparing and maintaining schedules, tracking progress, and preparing status reports.

• Effective interpersonal skills for interaction with colleagues, clients, and public agency officials.

• Self-starter and highly motivated.

• Ability to work interdependently within a team environment.

• Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or daily as changes occur in project needs.

• Flexibility to work on an individual project as well as on team projects.

• Must be able to work 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime.
