Job Description

Exciting Retirement Plan Provider offering outstanding benefits and an ideal work culture seeks a Controller with 10 years robust corporate experience who gets the importance of mentoring and employee development. While this remote opportunity has room for growth, this Controller is a key to the firm’s Finance & Accounting (F&A) function. As a critical partner to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this Controller is primarily responsible for leading a team of accounting professionals through timely and accurate deliverables and the creation of operational process efficiencies. Tasked with leading by example, driving employee performance and engagement, continuous improvement, and results, the Controller will enhance the company's financial statement reporting and month-end close processes. The Controller reports directly to the CFO in a private equity (PE) backed business. Exposure to working directly with private equity partners and preparing "board ready" and ad hoc data strongly preferred.   • Provide financial information to leadership and the board to facilitate data driven decision making.
  • Lead by example, exhibiting the company’s core values and coaching teammates to do the same.
  • Driving toward the expectations of the board, improving outcomes by year, quarter, and month.
  • Work in tandem with broader F&A team to share success, enhance the function, deliver high quality results, and provide exceptional internal client service.
  • Set expectations and hold team accountable for producing accurate and timely work while providing internal service with a smile.
  • Accurately prepare and review timely financial statements.
  • Streamline and oversee the month end close process, significantly reducing the time to close.
  • Establish merger and acquisition (M&A) accounting integration best practices.
  • Review, modify, and oversee the accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R) functions.
  • Maintain monthly fixed assets schedules and all capital leases.
  • Implement batch and billing audits and reconciliation processes to increase revenue.
  • Lead audits and other compliance projects.
  • Participate in the interviewing, selecting, and training of new F&A teammates.
  • Perform managerial tasks regularly and complete ad hoc projects when necessary.

Requirements

  • 10 years of corporate accounting experience including financial reporting
  • Experience working with private equity partners and preparing "Board Ready" and ad hoc data
  • 5+ years in an accounting leadership role managing a team of varying skillsets
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a relevant field of study
  • Strong understanding and proven application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Highly aware of details and priorities while remaining focused on the big picture and strategy
  • Willingness and agility to pivot as priorities change
  • Understanding of various legal entities and how multiple entities operate under different umbrellas
  • Professional and concise communication skills (written, verbal, and non-verbal)
  • Service focused attitude thriving on accountability, credibility, and trustworthiness
  • Positive influencer of change, innovation, and problem solving
  • Federal and state tax knowledge
  • Professional maturity and managerial courage
  • Relationship builder and business partner
  • Solid computer skills including MS Office suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Teams

We Prefer:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience with M&A transactions and accounting integrations
  • Various systems application knowledge including Sage, Centage Budgeting Software, etc.
  • A leader with a good sense of humor coupled with self and audience awareness
