Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY: The Family Violence and Sexual Assault Institute (FVSAI) dba The Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) is a 501(c)(3) organization and a leading international resource, direct services, research, and training center, founded in 1984 as FVSAI and headquartered in San Diego, California with satellite offices in Honolulu, Hawai`i and Maryland. IVAT is considered a one-stop shop to address and end violence and abuse. We host 2 international summits annually, house 3 academic journals, conduct research, provide a wide array of training, and offer vital professional forensic and clinical services to San Diego County and beyond. The current position will work primarily within the Professional Clinical and Forensic Services (PCFS) department at IVAT. The clinical/forensic psychologist will be primarily responsible for maintaining a caseload of clinical and forensic cases, including clinical and forensic evaluations, forensic consultation, expert services, and clinical and forensic supervision. The psychologist will also assist in the oversight and management of the PCFS training program. Responsibilities include direct and primary clinical supervision of clinical trainees, including both weekly individual and group supervision facilitation. The psychologist will receive training, oversight, consultation, and mentorship to grow their competency in a wide range of clinical and forensic topics and areas of practice. The psychologist will also be responsible for the oversight and supervision of trainees (doctorate students for practicum or internship or post-doctorate fellows) assigned to work on the cases with the psychologist and at IVAT. This role will work in collaboration with other IVAT psychologists and contractors to ensure that all trainees are receiving appropriate training, supervision, and oversight of the clinical and forensic work being conducted at IVAT. Responsibilities include direct supervision of graduate trainees on work being conducted by them as part of their work with IVAT. This supervision could take place in an individual supervision format and as part of group supervision. As part of the supervisor duties, the psychologist will work with the other psychologists on staff to ensure that all legal and ethical guidelines are being followed by overseeing the work conducted and reviewing relevant reports and documentation, and reviewing and signing off on clinical case notes, treatment plans, forensic reports, and documentation. Additionally, the psychologist will be responsible for assisting in working with other staff psychologists and contractors to maintain the regular training schedule. The psychologist will collaborate with other IVAT psychologists to support the maintenance of community-based clinical contracts. Those duties will include coordinating with the contract agencies’ staff regarding placement of practicum students/interns, addressing problems or concerns that arise, and regular agency visits. This role will also be responsible for working with the trainees’ graduate programs to help coordinate contracts, interviews, and evaluations of the trainees in accordance with the graduate program’s requirements. Furthermore, this role may also include providing consultation and training to the students, community, and others on issues of violence, abuse, trauma, victims, offenders, and children exposed to violence. There is also the opportunity to conduct research and write articles or grants related to the field of clinical and forensic psychology, trauma, or related topics, and to the mission and vision of IVAT. IVAT will be primarily responsible for: provision of case referrals; maintaining and providing appropriate testing materials, office supplies, and office space needed for the provision of professional work; provision of trainees to support in the professional work; and provision of professional and general liability insurance and coverage for the work being conducted by the psychologist for IVAT. The psychologist will be dedicated to providing high-quality services. SUMMARY OF TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES This is not an exhaustive list but a list that provides the candidate with an idea of job expectations. Maintain a full-time caseload of clinical and forensic cases, evaluations, supervision, consulting, and training. The forensic work can include criminal, civil, and family law work. It may also include a range of comprehensive psychological evaluations, more specialized forensic evaluations, clinical and forensic consultations on cases. It will also include consultation with attorneys, and the provision of expert witness testimony covering a broad range of issues as needed. The psychologist will receive training, oversight, consultation, and mentorship by other forensic psychologists to grow his/her competency in a wide range of forensic topics and areas of practice.Assist in providing oversight and management of the clinical and forensic training program. This includes recruitment of trainees, coordination and collaboration with the graduate programs, and regular oversight and supervision of the clinical and forensic work being conducted by the assigned trainees. Also includes collaborating to provide case management with community agencies/Assist in community outreach and training focused on clinical and forensic psychology, trauma, and related topics focused on increasing the clinical and forensic referrals, including obtaining placements for IVAT services to relevant community agencies.Provide group training on clinically and forensically focused topic areas to the training cohort. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education: A doctorate degree in forensic or clinical psychology Experience: Possess 1-3 years of experience in applied forensic and clinical psychology related to violence, abuse, trauma and psychological interventions.Experience and training in forensic and clinical psychologyExcellent communication, networking, writing, and supervisory skills, as well as reasoning, problem-solving, multitasking, ad team buildingExperience and strong competence in psychological assessments, including administration, scoring, and interpreting of a wide range of assessment tools.Training and background in the provision of clinical and forensic services, including relevant ethical and legal guidelinesBackground relating to research and clinical experience in violence, abuse, and traumaExperiences in writing book chapters, publishing journal articles, and editing articles, books, and chapters helpfulClinical supervisory experiencePrior experience testifying in court cases helpful, but this can be part of the mentorship and training as well if not experienced in this yetExperience in trauma-focused therapeutic techniques and modalities Certificates and Licenses: Be licensed as a psychologist in CaliforniaMust have flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and vendorsMust be familiar with the administration and interpretation of psychological tests, and proficient in report writing.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, have excellent communication skills (written and verbal), be detail-oriented, and be interested in and knowledgeable in the areas of violence, abuse, and trauma. Must be able to multitask and work effectively with a teamMust be able to interact with the public and with collaborating agencies and organizations, including outreach to expand clinical and forensic services and clients. Management Skills: Supervisory experience is strongly encouraged for the position Supervisor Responsibilities: Involved in Professional Clinical & Forensic Services (PCFS) training program including the direct supervision of practicum trainees, pre-doctoral interns, and post-doctoral fellows.
