Job Summary: The ESL Program and volunteer coordinator will need to check in with volunteer teachers every day to ensure that they have everything that they need and that they are following all policies and procedures. If an instructor is absent for any reason, the ESL Program & Volunteers Coordinator will be responsible for deciding to either combine classes or who might teach the class. The ESL Program & Volunteers Coordinator will be required to participate in and coordinate the orientations and be trained in administering standardized assessments, filling out registration forms, and being comfortable observing other teachers. Responsible for networking and collaboration with other community agencies to recruit volunteers and present them to the agency for the standard process. Will be required to attend staff meetings each week and maintain a working relationship with the ESL Program Director, who will assist them with any issues that may arise.

Duties/Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:
  • Maintaining positive, mutually beneficial relationships with community partners such as churches and universities.
  • Publishing promotional fliers in English and other languages.
  • Responding to phone and email inquiries from prospective students and volunteers.
  • Performs clerical and administrative tasks including drafting letters, memos, invoices, reports, and other documents for the CCANO Volunteer Director.
  • Assists the CCANO Volunteer Director in coordinating and executing a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the agency to advance departmental goals and program needs.
  • Responsible for conducting comprehensive coaching services with each client to establish desired goals/outcomes and follow up as needed.
  • Work closely with clients to develop workforce training and referral processes based on desired career tracks and partnerships with community providers based on career tracks.
  • Present program opportunities in current ESL classes, and schedule and manage appointments.
  • Maintain communication with clients, volunteers, and staff, and assist in the development of the workforce with existing Refugee program staff for this purpose.
  • Assist with special projects and other tasks as necessary and may be required to assist with job fairs as needed.


Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Sitting, Standing, Walking, Talking, and working on a computer. Must be able to lift fifteen pounds at times. Physical Demands: Sedentary physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature.
  1. Stand less than 33% of the time on duty.
  2. Walk less than 33% of the time on duty.
  3. Sit between 33% and 66% of the time on duty.
  4. Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel over 66% of the time on duty.
  5. Reach with hands or arms less than 33% of the time.
  6. Full ability to talk and hear.
  7. Correctable vision required.
  8. Able to lift/carry up to 15 lbs.


Minimum Educational and General Qualifications: Studies and/or experience in a related field (e.g., education, counseling, social work)
  • Experience working with diverse populations, particularly ESL learners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using databases and other technology for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test per Catholic Charities' requirements.
  • Computer skills (email, Word, Excel, Google Drive, etc.)
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to people of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to the position
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Attend mandatory CCANO orientation for new employees (takes place on Monday mornings); complete Safe Environment training as required by HR policy.
  • Other duties as assigned. Experience in volunteer development career or higher education advising is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and another language (e.g., Spanish, French) is a plus.


All candidates for employment with CCANO must submit to a criminal records check as a condition of employment.

New employees will be required to complete a criminal background check prior to employment.

Compliance with the State of LA Child Protection Act and Archdiocese Policy on Abuse and Neglect, to provide for the safety and security of all clients served by CCANO programs.

Certain programs require additional background checks in addition to the Archdiocesan check. These may include the "State Police Check " and

" The Department of Education".
