POSITION: Staff Accountant

DEPARTMENT: Finance

REPORTS TO: Director, Grant & Financial Reporting

PAY GRADE: 5

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Staff Accountant reports to the Director of Grant and Financial Reporting and will support the grant reporting function, ensuring repayment of expenses incurred. The Staff Accountant will assist the Finance Department with tracking the monthly accounting close process, and the preparation of certain monthly accounting entries and reconciliations.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compile documentation needed for monthly invoice submissions to government funders, work directly with those government entities to understand the documentation requirements and make changes to submissions as needed.
  • Track receivables on government grants.
  • Track performance of each grant against the approved budget. Identify budget vs. actual issues that need to be resolved.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting team to keep the monthly close schedule on track throughout the month. Suggest process improvements.
  • Assist with occasional billing, invoice creation, and accounts receivable issues.
  • Assist with preparation for the annual audit & Form 990 (tax return).
  • Lead the unclaimed property process throughout the year.
  • Prepare accounting entries throughout the month to record financial activity to general ledger.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree along with 1-3 years of related work experience
  • Strong curiosity and a desire to learn
  • Possesses a collaborative spirit, as well as the ability to prioritize concurrent projects and day-to-day tasks within a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and judgment skills required. Strong customer service skills and corresponding response time to requests, etc.
  • Well organized with an appreciation for details and follow through; must be action-oriented
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Environment with an emphasis in Excel
