What do we need?

The Activities Coordinator will assist the Activities Manager in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and directing individual and group activities/recreation within the Residential Treatment Program with the goal of establishing an interesting, challenging, structured schedule of activities for clients that will improve self-esteem, restore emotional balance, and generate physical conditioning.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform competently in crisis management and maintain certification as a Safe Crisis Management instructor. Utilize these skills as needed to train residential staff and ensure the safety of the clients. Assist Residential Field Trainer with New Employee Orientation (NEO) and monthly SCM reviews as requested by the Residential Director.
  • Assists the Activities Coordinator in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and coordinating routine campus activity/recreation schedule for clients including but not limited to: physical activities, crafts, games, sports outings, exercise program, hobbies, music, and/or other leisure activities.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining a full and robust activity schedule to include a wide range of activities and recreational options appropriate for the age and interests of the children. Development process includes but is not limited to:
    • Conducting Activity Program evaluations/assessments;
    • Providing written and/or oral reports of activities;
    • Routinely gauging client needs by spending at least one (1) shift per week providing direct care within the milieu.
  • Coordinates and maintains cleanliness of recreational areas. Ensures that appropriate cleaning supplies are on hand to perform necessary cleaning functions.
  • Investigates, proposes, and secures needed recreational equipment, supplies and other activity materials.
  • Ensures that all staff, clients, and volunteers operate equipment in a safe manner.

  • During activities, provides supervision to both direct care staff and clients in order to build on strengths and offer immediate feedback regarding performance. Involves direct care staff and clients in determining preferred activities.
  • Acts as a liaison to the community to help develop resources and off-site activities for clients.
  • Provides a positive role model for good sportsmanship, team cooperation, healthy competition, safety, and good conduct.
  • Meets with Residential program personnel on a regularly scheduled basis to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and improving services to clients.
  • Assists in determining staffing requirements necessary to meet the Activity Program's needs and assign a sufficient number of staff for each activity.
  • Maintains an excellent working relationship with Residential Supervisors and other direct care staff in order to assure that daily activities can be performed without interruption.
  • Assists in preparing and planning the Activities Program budget.
  • Is responsible for obtaining forty (40) clock hours of required staff development/training as set forth by St. Joseph Children's Home Policy and Procedures, by COA, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Sixteen hours of which must be successfully completed in Safe Crisis Management. Must implement and use the tools acquired during education sessions.
  • Once receives and completes required training involving medication distribution, demonstrates effective and accurate medication distribution and record/log keeping. Consistently ensures policies and procedures related to medication for clients are being implemented.
  • Assists in evaluating peers, provides mentoring/coaching/training of staff.
  • Coordinates with Advancement to post openings for volunteer positions within program on the volunteer software. Responsible for supervising volunteers within their program, including tracking volunteer hours by using volunteer software and ensuring any supervision requirements are met.
  • Management retains the right to change the job description in accordance with changes of duties & responsibilities in this position.

Education and/or Experience:
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in a Physical Education field preferred.
  • Experience preferred in providing appropriate care to clients, winning their respect, guiding clients in their development, managing a home effectively, and in the participation, management, and implementation of a treatment program.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Driver's license with insurable driving record required.
  • Must become certified in:
    • CPR
    • First Aid
    • Safe Crisis Management

Physical Factors:
  • Standing for up to eight (8) hours.
  • Reaching above the shoulder level.
  • Walking.
  • Bending at the waist.
  • Lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 50 max pounds.
  • Repetitive kneeling movements to and from the floor.
  • Sustained kneeling position for up to 10 minutes.
  • Supporting another participant/client's body weight.
