Electrical/Automation Engineer

Summary/Objective
The Electrical Engineer will innovate and optimize wood fastening equipment through the design, documentation, and implementation of electrical systems and control logic for wood fastening.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for machine projects (panel layouts, schematics, and component selection)
- Release components and systems engineering documentation (BOM, Schematics, component prints).
- Write machine control logic.
- Originate automation concepts and develop functionality.
- Support production, customer service, and sales with training and problem solving.

- Machine safety and performance characteristics.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering plus 2+ years related experience, or technical degree in electronics plus 5+ years related experience
- Expertise in machine safety programs and safety categories
- Experience creating and updating machine motion control logic.
- Experience using CAD software to develop and detail electrical designs (SolidWorks, Solidworks Electrical)
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic control devices
- Experience with HMIs, Servos, and PLCs (Emerson and B&R products preferred or equivalent such as Allen Bradley)
- Understand and conform to applicable codes and standards: Viking standards, customer specifications, UL, NFPA.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Disciplined problem solving.
- Ideal candidate is capable and experienced in leading projects, and directing the work of others.
Preferred Software Experience
- Solidworks, Solidworks Electrical.
- B&R Automation Studio.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Location
This is a full-time exempt position. Schedule is standard business hours with the occasional need for additional hours depending on project load. The position is based in Viking's main office location.
