The Inventory Specialist is responsible for physical inventory management and ensuring the alignment of physical and logical inventories. The Inventory Specialist receives, stores, fills in, merchandises, (add restock) tags, and accounts for all products in the inventory management system. The primary goal of this role is to ensure that customers have access to the products they need by maintaining accurate inventory records and merchandising products effectively.

The Inventory Specialist ensures the accuracy of inventory when they:

  • Ensure all products remain compliant with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Research and correct variances between physical and logical inventory levels.
  • Participate in inventory count and review audit results to identify specific items or product categories with high shrinkage.
  • Track all inventory movement, stock adjustments, and product details accurately and in a timely manner within all inventory tracking systems.
  • Accurately receive, track inventory, and upload reporting to seed-to-sale systems (Metrc, Cannabis Central Reporting System, etc.).

The Inventory Specialist contributes to outstanding customer experiences when they:

  • Fulfill online orders for in-store pick-up as necessary
  • Ensure products are merchandised appropriately with accurate display tags, positioned according to category and brand, fulfilled, and in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
  • Identify and communicate to Store Manager opportunities for promotions, recommended price changes, or adjustments to order quantities according to trends in inventory flow and turnover.

The Inventory Specialist supports store operations when they:

  • Maintain neatness, cleanliness, and organization of product and all back-of-house inventory workspaces.
  • Assist with the maintenance of departmental equipment and ensure it is functioning and in good working order.
  • Support the Purchasing function with filing and other clerical duties.
  • Receive, verify, and reconcile any discrepancies in incoming shipments against purchase order.

The Inventory Specialist supports marketing when they work with the Product Director to:

  • Maintain inventory in the Point of Sale system.
  • Post promotions on the company website and audit product details.
  • Directly supporting Marketing needs to create promotions.
  • Manage product refunds on a weekly basis
  • Maintain damage/return logs

Reports To:

  • The Inventory Specialist reports directly to the Store Manager.

Performance Requirements: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Demonstrated knowledge about Cannabis products, methods of delivery, and applications
  • Be proficient with Company inventory management/Point of Sale software
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite with intermediate Excel/Sheets skills
  • Possess excellent written/verbal communication skills, analytical skills, math skills, and research skills
  • Be knowledgeable about and adhere to federal, state, and local Cannabis regulations

Work Environment

  • Work is generally performed in a busy dispensary and requires frequent contact and interaction with distributors, vendors, customers, and staff.
  • Requires working varied hours and days, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to operate a computer, keyboard, tablet, scanner, receipt printer, and other point-of-sale equipment.
  • Frequent moving, reaching, and grabbing.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and moving up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires repetitive hand and wrist motions

Required Education and Experience

  • 1-3 years experience in an inventory management or related role
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 21+

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 2 or more years experience working in the cannabis industry
