Dartmouth’s Advancement division is seeking an Associate Director of Gift Planning to join our talented team. This role offers a unique chance to manage engagement and stewardship strategies, marketing, and communications to raise awareness of planned giving vehicles with our alumni and volunteers.

Position Overview:

As our Associate Director of Gift Planning, you'll be at the forefront of managing probate, estate settlement, and life income plans for Dartmouth's undergraduate college and professional schools. You'll engage with alumni, parents, friends, and colleagues to cultivate relationships, manage marketing strategies, and raise awareness of planned gift vehicles. Your contributions will play a pivotal role in advancing our philanthropic mission and ensuring the long-term success of our institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estate Management: Lead probate and estate settlement processes in accordance with Dartmouth's guidelines and fiduciary standards, communicating directly with attorneys, trustees, and internal stakeholders to manage family expectations and acknowledge estate planned gifts.
  • Life Income Plans Administration: Manage the administration of Dartmouth's life income plans, collaborating with donors, beneficiaries, and external partners to ensure effective management and compliance.
  • Strategic Communication: Write, edit, and proofread gift proposals, solicitation materials, and stewardship documents tailored to donors' interests and philanthropic priorities.
  • Technical Expertise: Acquire technical knowledge in tax, investment, and legal aspects of charitable giving to articulate effectively in discussions with donors, counsel, colleagues, and volunteers.
  • Data Management: Research, organize, and prepare statistical data for donor reports, planned gift activity, and special projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Long-range Planning: Participate in departmental long-range planning, incorporating the needs of diverse populations into program planning initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least five years' experience in paralegal work, banking (trust department), deferred giving, fundraising, or related field.
  • Knowledge of estate planning, trusts, IRA, gift annuities, beneficiary insurance policies, and tax laws.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters discreetly.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently or as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in database, spreadsheet, and web-based software applications.
  • Knowledge of PG Calc planned giving software preferred.
