The Director, Risk Management is a key member of the legal leadership team and will work closely with the Company’s general counsel, chief financial officer, EHS leadership, business unit leadership and other top management team members. Reporting to the general counsel, he/she will be responsible for managing all aspects of risk with respect to the organization, its employees, reputation, and assets.  Specific risk areas include operational and product liability, auto, corporate governance, cyber, regulatory compliance, and real property.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing, implementing and leading a global risk management strategy for the organization
  • Understands and analyzes complex insurance issues and developing and executing appropriate policies and procedures to mitigate the Company’s exposure to risk and to reduce cost
  • Maintains a leadership role in the tactical execution of all binder requirements, policy renewals and amendments and continual changes in coverage
  • Responds to numerous queries from carriers, brokers, regulatory agencies and corporate stakeholders across the enterprise, providing requested information daily
  • Advises internal stakeholders on workers compensation, auto accidents, general liability, professional liability, property, and cyber-crime claims
  • Ensures the Company is adequately covered and secured across all lines
  • Reviews, researches and finalizes claims within established regulatory requirements and Company policies
  • Reviews provider disputes or appeals and provides a detailed analysis of findings
  • Provides expertise and assistance relative to provider billing and payment guidelines consistent with Company policies and procedures
  • Develops workers compensation incident reduction programs, shepherds injured employees through work restrictions and resolves open workers comp claims
  • Provides leadership with loss run analytics and risk mitigation strategies while anticipating changes in the everchanging and expanding risk landscape
  • Creates and propagates loss run key performance indicators to benchmark risk, rolling out evidence-based risk mitigation initiatives
  • Maintains detailed metrics and dashboards on vehicle accidents, employee injuries, workers compensation claims, general liability claims and the cost trends associated with each. Utilize data to drive risk mitigation for business units
  • Recommends and implements risk and cost reduction strategies across all lines of insurance
  • Manages TPA to rigorous KPIs
  • Leads by way of example and provides outstanding mentorship to junior claims administrators and colleagues

 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of risk management experience in-house as head of risk for an international company, preferably in the manufacturing or industrial sectors
  • 3+ years of claim processing experience
  • Strong academic credentials, including Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact at all levels
  • Ability to effectively communicate and create presentations for the Board of Directors and executive leadership teams
  • Ability to distill and communicate complex topics to all stakeholders across the company
  • Highly collaborative when analyzing issues and determining priorities
  • Demonstrated growth mindset with the desire to learn and proactively seek different views
  • Demonstrated claims investigations and negotiating experience
  • Must be self-driven, detail oriented and possess strong organization skills including time-management and prioritization
  • Travel may be required as business needs dictate
  • Practical and commercial approach to problem solving
  • Ability to influence behaviors at all levels of the organization
  • Proven track record of delivering enhancements to process efficiency including through the use of technology
  • Ability to manage and develop employees
  • Drives best in class process and outcomes
  • Experienced with managing TPAs efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to produce and present effective presentations and training sessions

This role is eligible for bonus + medical, dental, vision benefits starting day 1 + 401k and PTO. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
