Job Description

Job Summary

The Manager of Institutional Giving is a key member of the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Development Department with responsibility for comprehensive oversight and success of approximately $600,000 in contributed annual revenue from corporate, foundation, special projects, and government funding campaigns. This team member must be a dynamic self-starter who demonstrates a high level of institutional knowledge as well as a sophisticated level of strategic thinking and writing as they cultivate and steward donors of CIM.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the achievement of renewed and increased giving from corporations, foundations, and government entities supporting CIM’s annual fund, scholarships, campaign, and special projects, and events.
  • Expand CIM’s access to corporate/foundation leaders in the greater Cleveland region by developing relationships within the funding community and by leveraging the influence and access of CIM’s Trustees and executive leadership.
  • Create and implement strategies for cultivating new funding sources that support the CIM’s growing portfolio of funders and funding opportunities.
  • Create tailored sponsorship proposals and negotiate financial terms for new and renewed corporate partners and collaborate with corporations to achieve maximum return on investment for CIM.
  • Establish stewardship standards for institutional funders, managing and ensuring fulfillment of sponsorship benefits including coordinating with other departments to guarantee compliance with specific sponsorships, timely delivery of benefits, event attendance, and proper recognition.
  • Produce proposals and reports to corporations and foundations ensuring no deadline is missed, which includes grant proposals and reports and collateral materials for corporate sponsorships.
  • Collaborate with Development colleagues to ensure the highest level of donor stewardship including planning and execution of elegant and meaningful events that achieve the right balance of cost/benefit ratio, exceptional ROI, and valued response – financially and artistically – from the corporate donor base.
  • Analyze key performance metrics for purposes of tracking and monitoring results, and formulate recommendations for improving performance.
  • Regularly attend CIM concerts and events.
  • Represent CIM at meetings on- and off-campus.
  • Collaborate with CIM Staff, Faculty, and Board of Trustees to successfully achieve goals.

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Strong preference for majors in the arts or demonstrated experience in a performing arts setting. Working knowledge of classical music a plus.
  • 2-3 years progressively responsible fundraising or related experience, preferably with a focus on corporate, foundations, and/or performing arts and public sector.
  • Experience the grant writing and submission process.
  • Management style that promotes teamwork, encourages creativity, rewards initiative and builds consensus.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills, with ability to develop and prepare sophisticated proposals and presentations, budgets, and written correspondence and reports.
  • Excellent critical thinking, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Professional working environment.
  • Position requires occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, perhaps once per week.
  • Position involves occasional driving to concerts and other events outside of office (1-3 times per month, depending on time of year).
  • Evenings and weekends may be required for events.
