Job Description

POSITION TITLE: 

Dean of Career and Technical Education

 

APPOINTMENT:

Appointed by the Chancellor of the College upon recommendation of the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

The Dean of Career and Technical Education reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Dean of Career and Technical Education (CTE) contributes to the development and implementation of the college's educational services by providing administrative leadership and direction for an identified set of educational programs of study. The Dean is responsible for the development, ongoing assessment, and operation of the CTE  Division of the College, which includes oversight of multiple programs and management of program faculty across all RPCC campuses. This position is a 12-month position.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Curriculum and Instruction Oversight

 

  • Conducts continual needs analysis that drives an understanding of industry needs that is consistently shared and communicated with internal and external partners to inform planning efforts for programming needs related to credit, non-credit, customized training, and other support services.
  • Works across academic and workforce areas of the college to anticipate and respond to the education and training needs of the industry.
  • Manage curriculum guides for the division and bring changes, when needed, to the College Curriculum Committee.
  • Assemble and coordinate Advisory Committees and Advisory Committee meetings for all division programs.
  • Coordinate the development of the course schedule for each program in collaboration with department chairs and faculty.
  • Promotes curriculum innovation and instructional excellence.

 

Leadership and Supervision

  • Organizes, develops, implements, and executes training and/or programs for new and existing external business partners and programs (both credit and non-credit), developed around needed skill sets.
  • Provides key direction, leadership and advisement for full and part-time faculty and staff.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of division faculty.
  • Coordinate with department chairs to complete annual evaluations, classroom observations, and performance improvement plans when needed.
  • Ensures that appropriate credentialing and professional development is provided for RPCC faculty and staff, and others as needed.
  • Oversee student grievances and grade appeals that are related to courses or faculty within the division.
  • Promotes the collection, analysis, and assessment of data for the purpose of creating improved processes, programs and services.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditors and governing agencies.

 

Strategic Planning and Budget Oversight

  • Promotes articulation and partnership efforts with secondary and post-secondary educational institutions.
  • Works intricately with marketing and recruitment to develop and implement targeted strategies to attract successful candidates for RPCC education and training programs.
  • Manage the annual budget and approve purchases for the division.
  • Seek out and apply for grants that support the development and enhancement of division programs.
  • Collaborates with Student Services personnel to set student recruitment and retention goals.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required:

·         Master’s Degree from an accredited institution and five years broad-based experience education/program administration.

·         Experience with program development and assessment

·         Strong management skills

·         Innovative, creative, and energetic work style

·         Demonstrated ability to build, coordinate and lead a team of diverse professionals

·         The ability to represent RPCC internally and externally

·         Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and to communicate with a diverse community

·         Commitment to diversity and inclusion

·         Experience creating and facilitating staff development and training

·         Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills; competency with office technology and software.
