Job Description

JOB TITLE: Mechanic I

EMPLOYER: Rhode Island Resource Recovery

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager

EFFECTIVE DATE:

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing minor repairs and preventive maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs preventive maintenance per manufacturer recommended procedures and Corporation policy.
  • Tracks when inspections are due and order service kits accordingly.
  • Performs minor repairs to lights, mirrors, wipers, electrical wires, tires, and glass replacement.
  • Tests drive and/or inspect vehicles for wear, damage, or specific problems affective performance.
  • Inspects machines uses OEM and RIRRC maintenance checklist, repair or report any issues.
  • Performs quarterly landfill equipment inspections and cleaning.
  • Provides fluids, greasing, and minor repairs to support operations in field.
  • Performs engine tune-ups, including diagnosing items in need of repair, replacement, or adjustment.
  • Makes repairs as necessary.
  • Performs minor welding and fabrication of items to complete machine repairs and facility equipment repairs.
  • Performs routine inspection of machine parts, including but not limited to belts, motors, pulleys, drive systems, teeth.
  • Demonstrates continual effort to improve operations, reduce turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service.
  • Works safely without presenting a threat to self or others and maintain good housekeeping and clean-as-you-go practices.
  • Completes paperwork associated with repairing equipment, parts usage, and accounting for time in repairs, in a timely manner.
  • Operates various hand tools and equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED),
  • A minimum of one-year related experience or trade school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates, licenses and registrations required:
    1. Possess a current, valid driver’s license.
    2. Obtain OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety within 12 months of employment.
    3. Obtain Hoisting Engineers restricted endorsement 204 excavating equipment or equivalent within six months and maintain throughout employment.
  • Computer skills required: Internet Software; Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Inventory Software; Order Processing Systems; Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook).
  • Other skills required:
    1. Read and interpret manuals and schematics.
    2. Familiarity with heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
    3. Ability to fabricate and make minor welding and other repairs.
    4. Use independent judgment in performing duties.
    5. Ability to communicate effectively.
    6. Read, write, and speak English.
    7. Perform intermediate math addition, subtraction, division, multiplication with decimals and fractions.
    8. Basic computer and keyboarding knowledge to enter and extract data and maintain records.
  • Must provide own tools.

  • Occasionally exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • The employee must continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
