ACCEL Schools is seeking an Academic Support Specialist for Cleveland College Preparatory School in Cleveland, Ohio for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

About the Opportunity:

  • Relentlessly work to meet all goals related to student achievement and culture as well as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals.
  • Meet with students who are at-risk for retention each marking period and, if appropriate, formulate a plan of action for academic success with the involvement of the student and parent/guardian;
  • Plan and/or promote programs which enhance the academic, social or emotional growth of students, e.g., Curriculum Fair, Career Fair, Underclass Honors Assembly, Honors Program, graduation, opportunities for student enrichment and/or remediation, scholarship opportunities and parent informational programs;
  • Meet with eighth grade students once each semester and mailing updates on their promotion status to their parents;
    • Assist students with the completion of high school admissions applications;
  • Support the educational and behavioral goals of all students, including those with an Individualized Education Plan or those learning English as a second language.
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Academics, Parent Liaison, and Dean of Students with students who are referred for discipline, attendance and academic challenges.
  • Integrate culturally responsive teaching practices into daily lessons and interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their child.
  • Monitor student eligibility for participation in extracurricular activities, including meeting any league requirements that may be necessary for athletic participation;
  • Meet with scholars and parents to discuss test results and develop academic improvement plans.
  • Assist the principal in the preparation of diploma lists and identification of honor graduates in preparation for the eighth grade graduation and kindergarten promotion;
  • Aid students in developing high school and post-secondary educational plans in accordance with their interests, abilities and career plans;
  • Contribute to a positive climate and culture by exhibiting high professional standards.
  • Assure appropriate, accurate information is maintained in each student's permanent, cumulative record; and make necessary schedule changes for individual students that are both appropriate for their abilities and aligned with their educational and career plans.
  • Consult with and serve as a resource for students, staff and parents regarding developmental needs of students, which may include:
    • Identification and referral of students for Child Study Meetings;
    • Creation and oversight of Section 504 plans;
    • Active participation in Special Education meetings
    • Conference with individual students who have experienced a death in the family or serious illness and notification of their teachers.
    • Work with teachers to increase their knowledge of students with physical or emotional challenges
  • Participate, coordinate, and conduct activities which contribute to the effective implementation of the K-8 social emotional learning program
  • Evaluate and revise the building guidance and counseling program
  • Understand, accept, abide by, and implement the school's philosophy and mission statement in all school activities.
  • Assist and coordinate the RTI and MTSS programs
  • Develop capstone program for promotion from 8th grade
  • Create and implement foundational Social Emotional Curriculum and usage into daily practice
  • Facilitation of Retention Protocols including retention meetings with teachers and families
  • Development of 8th grade to High School programming
  • Curriculum & 'Success' Nights-- Monthly Fairs' to aid in the support of parents and students
  • Manage student behaviors w/ the implementation of innovating restorative justice practices and including of social emotional learning curriculum resources in the daily practice.

About You:

  • Master's Degree in Guidance & Counseling with School Counseling Endorsement on a Valid Ohio Teaching Certificate
  • Minimum: Bachelor's Degree with Valid Teaching Certificate
