An academic support specialist can perform a variety of tasks to assist a student in their academic endeavors. Most of these positions exist at colleges or universities, but some academic support specialists work for private education or tutoring companies. As an academic support specialist, your duties may include advising students, facilitating study groups or workshops, assessing current programs, and tracking student learning and academic performance. You may oversee tutoring programs or act as a tutor. In some cases, you may work in an administrative capacity where your responsibilities revolve around assessing the performance of students and helping administrative staff implement changes to their curriculum or student services.
