Job Description

IT Bench Technician

Have you built your own computer? The desired candidate is an aspiring IT technical professional who loves computers, has a passion and curiosity for knowing how things work, and the attention to detail required to consistently deliver quality. The primary responsibility of the bench technician is to prepare computers for deployment – most often laptops – by imaging them, and ensuring they are configured according to client needs. Although less frequent, the bench technician will also configure other business IT technologies such as network devices, and thin clients. The ability to follow instructions prepared by senior engineers, but also think on your feet when getting unexpected results will be necessary for your success. On the rare occasion, the ability to troubleshoot returned hardware for repair may be required, as might going onsite to a client’s location to facilitate deployments or inventory hardware. This role will be based out of our Las Vegas HQ office, so the ability to be full-time onsite in Vegas is required.

Education and Experience:

1. High School diploma or equivalent (Degree preferred)

2. 1-2 Years of IT, Help Desk, and/or MSP experience

3. Competency Certifications are a plus (CompTIA A+, Network +, etc.)

Required Qualifications and Job Description:

  • A passion for IT
  • Experience with computer hardware installation: hard-drives, SSD’s, RAM & other components
  • A strong understanding of the troubleshooting and testing methodologies required to diagnose and confirm resolution of issues; ability to troubleshoot drivers, firmware, compatibility and updates prior to deployment
  • Follow instructions provided by senior engineers, but also think critically when getting unexpected results
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; as good with people as you are with computers.
  • Experience working with help desk ticketing systems (receiving your priorities, tracking your work, and entering your time so it can be attributed to clients.)
  • Data entry in inventory system
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Require limited supervision and direction to be both efficient and effective
  • Drive results, and set priorities appropriately and independently
  • Ability to multi-task to optimize time by multi-threading work processes while waiting for updates to complete.
  • Some onsite client visits may be required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb. boxes; you will assist procurement with preparation of hardware for shipment
  • Solid understanding of computer hardware, peripherals, networking basics, and other standard office hardware required for business operations (printers, scanners, etc.)
  • When challenged with a new technology you are not familiar with, your reaction should be one of curiosity and excitement about getting to research, learn, and figure something new out

Desired Qualifications:

  • You’ve built your own computer and/or worked to get broken technologies working again.
  • A+ Certification is a plus
  • Experience with Active Directory & Office 365; GPOs

Bonus points for experience with any of the following:

  • Software package deployment using programs like Intune & Autopilot (or similar… Acronis True Image, PDQ Deploy, Ninite Pro, Chocolatey, JAMF, etc.)
  • Kaseya VSA RMM or similar RMM
  • VPN client software
  • Thin-clients/ zero-clients
  • MDM (JAMF Pro, Meraki Systems Manager, Maas360, Mozul)
  • Backup and restores via Datto, Veeam, Acronis, Etc
  • Asset Tiger
  • PowerShell, Python, Windows & Mac OS Command Line
  • Process improvement; how can you iterate on our current process to increase quality and efficiency?

Job Purpose

The bench technician is a specialized role within our national MSP supporting the hardware needs of various clients. Efficiently completing quality work is critical, so that when hardware arrives at a client’s location, it is plug-and-play and creates an effortless customer experience when being deployed.
