Job Description

NASBA serves as a forum for the nation’s 55 State Boards of Accountancy, which administer the Uniform CPA Examination, license more than 672,000 Certified Public Accountants and regulate the practice of public accountancy in the United States.

NASBA accomplishes its mission of enhancing the effectiveness and advancing the common interests of the Boards of Accountancy by creating innovative avenues for accounting regulators, educators, and practitioners alike to address emerging issues relevant to the viability of the accounting profession. Schedule:                     Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. - Some work from home flexibility; however, you must live in the   

                                       Middle TN area and not out of state. 

Responsibilities

The Senior Data and Reporting Analyst will bring analytical reporting and data visualization to life at NASBA. This position will serve in a pivotal role as part of a team to help a large data warehouse cloud transformation to support the digital transformation capabilities and data analytics reporting capabilities of the organization. The Senior Data and Reporting Analyst will serve as the primary data and reporting analyst to gather data from NASBA’s CPA Examination and other related systems, in combination with other third-party sources, as relevant, for use by NASBA leadership, NASBA’s Department of Client Services, Boards of Accountancy, and other third parties to better understand trends in CPA Examination testing and licensing.  In this role, the Senior Data and Reporting Analyst will perform the following duties under the direction of the Chief Information Officer:

  • Take primary responsibility for publishing and managing NASBA’s Candidate Performance on the Uniform CPA Examination Report, working in conjunction with the Manager of Member and Leadership Services and NASBA’s Communications Team. Also prepare and publish all quarterly and annual reports for boards of accountancy and interested third parties for dissemination.
  • Develop new reports as requested by and in collaboration with stakeholders, primarily using Power BI Pro. Also, using knowledge gained of data available, important issues and metrics, recommend additional reporting for consideration.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders on understanding and fulfilling their ad hoc data requests, as approved by NASBA management.
  • Create useful data extracts to assist the Department of Client Services team in performing their operational work efficiently and accurately.
  • Work closely with NASBA’s third party IT provider to develop relevant and reliable CPA Examination reporting and dashboards. Participate in related Data Governance activities.
  • In addition to extracting data, also link data elements between cross-channels of data, providing easily understood interpretations of data at a deeper level.
  • Develop and make presentations regarding data analysis and interpretations, as requested, and approved.
  • Extract and provide CPA Examination data, as approved, for academic research projects.
  • At all times, protect all individual candidate information and other sensitive data.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Internal Relationships:  This position reports to the Chief Information Officer and interacts closely with the Executive VP and COO, the Director of Client Services and her team, the Manager of Member and Leadership Services, and the Communications team, as well as directors, managers, and staff across the Organization. 

External Relationships:   This position interacts with NASBA’s outsourced IT provider, boards of accountancy, university representatives, accrediting bodies, and other data consumers, as well as the Organization’s tri-party CPA Examination partners.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Expert knowledge of PowerBI Pro, Excel, and other data visualization tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel is mandatory.
  • Experience performing end to end data analysis, data mapping and managing quality and integrity of data across multiple platforms from an organizational perspective.
  • Ability to aggregate relevant data from multiple sources to generate meaningful business insights.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a data analytics and reporting role
  • Project management experience is a plus. 

Education/Other:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required in data analytics, accounting, business administration, business management, management information systems, accounting information systems, computer science, or other relevant fields. 
  • CPA, CIA, CISA or equivalent experience a plus
  • Willingness to travel and work independently.
