Recreation Leader II - Summer Aide

DEFINITION
This position will assist and support the day-to-day operations of the Piedmont Recreation Department office managing communications, database entry, summer camp operations and other tasks as assigned. This position includes job functions below as well as other duties assigned, including supporting summer camps, special events and adaptive programs as well as loading/unloading delivery vehicles.

Communications - written and verbal
General office support - assisting front desk staff on operations
Administrative support - marketing programs, program preparations, creating flyers on Canva
Events - assist with planning and event preparation, event day execution
Camps - creating directional signage, assisting families navigate first day of camp, schlepping
Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Contract Class, Childcare and Sports Division staff. May receive technical and functional supervision from other management or professional positions. This position does not directly supervise staff.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Recreation Leader II - High School graduate or GED, 2 years of experience working in a recreation program or similar industry.
OTHER DUTIES
May be asked to attend staff development meetings and trainings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve performance. Use of city vehicles of various sizes; valid CA drivers license required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Contract Class, Childcare and Sports Division staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in a sports facility setting and use equipment. Strength is needed to lift and carry recreation equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for extended periods of time; and flexibility to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. May involve significant standing, walking, pushing, bending and/or pulling to participate in recreation activities. Visual acuity sufficient to perform essential functions of the position. Hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employees may interact with challenging staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. Applicants should also exhibit patience, maturity, and dependability. Possess good organizational skills and excellent communication.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Schedule will vary between 10-20 hours per week.
